The Martin St Louis Thread

They're badly underperforming and are not close to the contract value they've been given
And you think Jim Monty is blameless in all this?

Hartley? Really?

Let's get a vet assistant for Marty, that's a better option.
He doesn't want one, that's why he went for Grillo. Gave his buddy a bone.

It's the fox hole 2.0

I don't think a coaching change is the answer at the moment. TBH, I'm still recovering from the Therrien, Julien and Ducharme of the world.
That doesn't mean that MSL should be immune to criticism. For example, the deployment on the 5 on 3 was a head scratcher.

Agreed, but the coaches should be right out there doing it with them.

What they're doing right now is not working, full stop.

I know it's not working right now and have said they need to stick to zone or man and then add hybrid elements in as they go.

But that doesn't mean the bag skate wasn't needed and didn't send an appropriate message. I've been saying for some time now that if they aren't gonna move their feet in games, you better skate them into the ground in practice to send that message.

Now let's see what happens off of this but this is an important first step for MSL as he was too passive and kind before this. Outside of some yelling, he has not been punitive to the group before.

I'm as "old school" as it gets but at some point SmartyMarty has to look in the mirror.

Last night half way through the 3rd period, CC had given up. He fired the puck at the boards in fustration, in our own zone, which deflected into an opposing forwards stick AND he just skated around before heading into the bench. He literally gave up.

Trade him? Of course not. He's fustrated and I'm sure there are many more like him.

SmartyMarty is going to lose the room.

Bob Hartley won the Jack Adams, Stanley Cup and Gargarin Cup (KHL)

He won the Stanley Cup 25 years ago on a team that had

Sakic
Forsberg
Roy
Hejduk
Bourque
Blake
Foote
Tanguay
Drury

You would have won that Cup too

And the Gagarin Cup? Come on man. The same league where Tony Deangelo looks to be a star player and Chris Wideman won best defenceman?

This is a step, he hasn't done this before. Let's hope this is a start in his evolution.

So I listened to all the post game interviews and it highlights some of the problems.
To a man the players felt like they played well for two periods.
The issue I have with this is I don't consider getting outshot by a 2-1 margin playing well.
At one point in the second period it was mentioned that the slot shots were 14-3 and it wasn't for the good guys.
The Habs played a boring road game first period and that was it.
Once again the second period and the short change bit us hard.
I'd rather hear the players say we can't constantly be giving up the high grade chances we do and hope to stay in games.
Even if we managed to stay in the game and eke out a point I still couldn't be satisfied with those metrics.
They've completely lost touch with reality. When our genius coach, after getting absolutely annihilated by Seattle, doesn't think we were dominated, it makes me question his sanity.

Honestly it should be an 11pm skate and then a punitive morning skate. That's how they used to do it. I recall Beliveau recounting when the rangers had to do that after a particularly bad loss. If I was in charge, I would make them go door to door and apologize to all season ticket holders in person.

Again, complete refusal to call a timeout or do anything. This team is worse defensively than the one that picked 1st overall

You mean the team that had 1 dman under 25 (Romanov) play a meaningful volume of games that year?

The one that had 4 30+ vets (+ 27 year old Kulak & 28 year old Edmundson) on the roster to start the season?

As always, the assessments in your posts seem completely devoid of context.

Name me a coach who won the Stanley Cup who didn't have a good team. Let's just say we'll never agree on Bob Hartley and that's okay.

Edmundson who played a total of 24 games with a bad back? You actually buying your own takes is the worst part

Yeah the team where two of their highest games played by defencemen that year were a completely washed Jeff Petry and Chris Wideman. Yeah a real all star lineup.

Next you’re going to tell me that no team could ever overcome the loss of Kovacevic and Jake Allen

Reading challenge?

And yes, teams experience injuries every season. There's this thing called roster depth, a concept perhaps too difficult for you to process :dunno:

You missed the point. No surprise there.
