While he was a Leaf all the Leafs fans sang his praises, and all the Leafs haters claimed he was a wimp and couldn't win.
Now Leafs nation (myself included) is sick of him being a wimp who can't win. And now all the Leafs haters are about to start singing his praises saying Toronto was crazy to let him walk.

I wouldn't necessarily conclude that. There's going to be a significant rise in contracts this off season. Marner is very smart to wait and until cap inflation goes into effect before beginning negotiations.
Why would Bennett go to Toronto and get paid less at 8 million?? Is he doing charity work in Toronto??

He will win a cup in Florida just like last year and enjoy the weather and pay less taxes while making more than what he would make in Toronto
Someone like Bennett who won a cup and been to finals multiple times while contributing more than someone like Marner in playoffs from scoring to playing physical, it could be north of 8 million. Remember GMs pay for intangibles not just regular season points.

There is the fact Marner is known to be a perimeter player. Mcdavid even said he "kinda plays high in the zone" at 4nations.
Well... how many players have you seen cover their face with their glove whenever a pass goes to the defenseman at the point?

Ive never looked forward to a player being off the Leafs more than him. Incredibly overrated player.

So the Avs who wouldn't pay existing star player Rantanen at that level will sign Marner? Why would they downgrade and then overpay?

I'm sure Marner will cost about 2-3 mil less than Rantanen, which is not nothing when you're up against the cap.
On the comment about covering his face, I remember Datsyuk doing that going out to block a shot and that guy was a pure playoff warrior

Rantanen signed for 12m. Are you seriously suggesting that Marner would sign for 9.10M?!
I guess are could be saying that Rant got 12m x 8 = 98m and MM will get 13.5 x 7 = 95M?

Panthers could be sneaky contenders for marner. Let bennet, ekblad walk and use it on marner.
However i think marner cares more about a higher aav than actual dollars earned, so the low (no?) State tax will b less of a giant advantage than it is in most cases.
