Speculation: The market for Mitch Marner's mega millions

What jersey will Mitchell Marner be wearing in the 2025-26 season?

They are both skilled , soft, defensively unreliable forwards that only produce in the regular season.

On completely different levels, but Eberle at least matches what he does in the regular season. 24g, 56pts per 82 regular season games. 21g, 51pts per 82 playoff games.

Marner - 28g, 92pts, to 15g, 74pts.

Marner is the better player all the time, but the fall off between the regular season and playoffs has been so dramatic. The difference in average points is almost entirely the cliff diving goal total.

The hate is too much on Marner. I don’t understand it to this extent. For any team with cap, you’re getting one of the best playmakers in the game in his prime.

He will thrive in the playoffs if he takes a tad less and goes to a team where he is the third best player. Maybe fourth

Edmonton would be great for him

Big two dawgs and Bouchard pulling the rope. Marner along for the ride

We know Oilers love leafs seconds and they thrive in Edmonton

He's shit the bed for what I hope was the last time in Toronto but come on - there isnt a team in the league where a guy who averages 95 points a year and kills penalties is the 4th best player.

3rd best ok - Edmonton, Dallas, Colorado and Florida, maybe Tampa with Kucherov, Point and Vasi, and even then you can argue semantics and consistency with Vasi. He'd immediately be the best player on more than twice as many teams - off the top of my head Seattle, Anaheim, NYI, Nashville, Philly, Detroit, Calgary, Utah and several more arguable.

East: Hopefully not Toronto. I'll call NYI, BOS and PIT.

West: LA, CHI and CGY.

He's a great player but he isn't a serious person and surrounding him with other unserious people (Matthews, Nylander, post-bag Rielly) was never going to turn out well. He'd score his 90 points anywhere but if he wants to win he needs a vet-heavy room.

The Pens unironically make the most sense in this regard from a teammate (Sid, Gen, Letang) and build-stage standpoint, and have fellow unserious person Kyle Dubas running them.

Chicago or Utah. Utah makes a lot of sense honestly. Young core that isn't far off...lots of cap space and an owner that seemingly wants to spend it.

Utah, Chicago, San Jose, among others. Maybe VGK, seems their MO.

He’ll be in demand, don’t get it twisted. Contenders probably not lining up though.

He already turned down a trade to Carolina though

He did, Kadri turned down a Calgary trade at one point of time too.
It's different when a team is trading you, versus when you're able to select where you go. Uprooting his family, including a heavily pregnant wife to Raleigh in the middle of a playoff run... I could see that being a 'no thank you'.

I think Carolina will be specifically aggressive if they fall short in the ECF. That Rantanen trade still looms large in terms of a being pretty bad, but they're such a good structured team that they've feasted on some of the pretenders in the playoffs so far. May as well get a Rantanen/Necas-level replacement for cap space in the offseason.

Now that I have some time to think about it. Marner(12) to Carolina makes a ton of sense and they would be absolute powerhouse with him on the team while still being able to re-sign Orlov(7), Burns(4) and also offersheet Cuylle(7) or Bourque(4.5).

If Marner want to gamble on himself. He can Take a discount an sign only 1 year contract with a contender team with a friendly contractand if he won next year he will cost a lot more.

I think he’d thrive somewhere like Chicago or SJ.

At face value, I imagine SJ is better to live than Chicago. I may be completely wrong with that guess though.
