IMO too expensive with too much playoff baggage to re-sign him.

Had a great run in TO overall, but ultimately he looks like part of the problem with the core here and I don’t see that changing.

Hate that he blocked the Rantenen trade, so I wouldn’t say I hope he wins a cup elsewhere like I would if say Rielly gets moved, but I don’t wish him ill.

Not positive but IIRC, the trade would have had to have been completed by the TDL in order for the player to get the 8th year. Rantanen got an 8th year b/c he was acquired prior to the TDL. Guentzel got 7 years b/c he was acquired after the TDL.

In this scenario I believe Tor can still give him 8 years. The understanding would be that they sign him with the intent to trade to the new team to get an actual return rather than trading the rights for a low pick.

Sounds plausible but I'm obviously not a CBA expert. I wonder if that has ever happened before...a sign and trade. I have to believe it has but I don't remember any specific occurrences.
