Traded free agent rights maybeIf Marner agrees to a trade, it will - I think - be a trade to a team relatively close to home: Ottawa, Detroit or Buffalo.
I think he'll want to stay in Toronto
What toughness?I'll guess Vegas.
Getting shutout by Stuart Skinner twice showed their lack of high-end talent (I mean for god's sake Eichel was centering Howden and Olofsson in game 5), and Stone and Hertl aren't getting any younger.
They are one of the few teams big enough to add a guy like Marner without their overall toughness becoming an issue.
Would probably have to deal Wild Bill's 5.9M and Hague/Whitecloud to open up enough cap space to make it happen.
Calgary missing out on any and every opportunity to add elite scoring would be moronic. This year already proved they are already past their window to finish bottom 5 and likely bottom 10, and they already have way too much high end young talent contributing/about to contribute to get to that point in names like Wolf, Coronato, and Parekh. Banking on our huge quantity of top 3 round picks over this 4 year stretch producing a Marner likely isn’t gonna happen, Calgary needs to utilize deft trades and free agency to add these names at every opportunity possible to fix their scoring.Even Tavares not that much. Flames need guys under 27 years old, especially at center. Trying to rush the rebuild with a bandaid fix just to squeak into the playoffs every other year would be moronic, but also completely on par with our ownership. I really hope Edwards keeps his hands out of Conroy's business and lets him do the job properly.
Yeah agree to disagree as usual I guess. Calgary should not be a buyer on this UFA market. Especially not a 35 center year old looking for 8M+ and a retirement contract.Calgary missing out on any and every opportunity to add elite scoring would be moronic. Calgary has the most usable cap space and according to Seravali (so massive grain of salt) is aiming to go big fish hunting. Adding Marner is a good start at adding some offensive punch to the forward core:
Huberdeau-Kadri-Coronato
Farabee-Zary-Marner
Sharangovich-Frost-Coleman
Lomberg-Pospisil/Backlund-Klapka
This whole “they aren’t one piece away so why add?” Narrative is the true moronic idea though. Make multiple moves over the next 3 seasons. Why is the assumption they’ll only make 1 and be happy?
What toughness?
Greetings from Oilers!
So Calgary should stay status quo, and hope that the late 1st and expendable prospect an Andersson trade would get us turns into a superstar, instead of just adding a superstar?Yeah agree to disagree as usual I guess. Sometimes I think I'm talking to Murray Edwards when I talk to you, just want to get in to get 2+ home games for tickets sales
Why would Toronto "not want him"? Maybe they cant afford him but im pretty sure any team would love to have him.Doubt it, but even if so Toronto doesn’t want him. They’re not going to make an offer.

He would honestly still probably lead the forward core in ice time most nights, but he can also carry a line. Zary looked a lot better than his point totals suggested last year before he got hurt, and Farabee has plenty of untapped scoring potential. Placing him there could give Calgary 2 dangerous scoring lines, something they sorely lacked last year.Curious, why pay him 12 million to play on the second line? Isn't Coronato a 2nd yr player?
