The Loss of Broberg and Holloway Gripe Thread

Kulak is having an amazing year, it was the right call to keep him. The choice was never Kulak or Holloway. It was Kulak or Broberg, and they made the right decision.

Kulak had a nice 15 game stretch really early on in the season and people keep acting like he’s been some stud all year round. He bleeds goals against this season to an embarrassing degree.

I've grown to really not like Kulak one bit. We could have received an asset for him during the offseason, I'd be fine getting absolutely nothing for the player at this point. Just to be rid of him. If you don't have someone equivalent to Kulak percolating in the minors the system is an abysmal fail.

Anyone think Halloway has this kinda season with the Oilers…. First mistake and he is banished to the 4th line or PB… maybe 30 secs of PP a game… I doubt Dylan would have gotten the consistent top 6 mins and PP time with Knob that he has gotten in STL

Broberg was his replacement. We don't have anyone now i think.

It's more possible that he didn't get that chance as much here because he was younger. He was getting more and more responsibility under Knoblauch, and was even in the top six in the playoffs. That likely would have continued here.

62 points, 26 of them goals. Does he hit 30 this season?

This is a screw-up of epic proportions retrospectively, All the justification and mental gymnastics in the world won't change that, though of course we are still hearing this stuff. It's to the point now where it's massive.
yeah, no one can see the future. But that doesn't matter. That 'future' all those months ago is now. And it couldn't look any worse.

He would have earned the top 6 spot some time in the year but would have to settle for 2nd unit PP time. He has 19 PP points so far this year so he’d be lucky to even reach 10 PP points with the Oilers but he might have better 5x5 numbers if he played with Draisaitl for most of the season or he could be getting the JSkinner treatment and have Ryan or Janmark as his center for most of the year and be lucky to hit 20 points.

The lack of foresight is so detrimental. Why not match Holloway? What possible justification could they have?

What an awful take.

If Holloway was your son or client, you wouldn't advise him to take the Blues offer, especially after how he was treated?

Oh, and he obviously made the right choice.
Thank you for the feedback. We aren’t likely to find much common ground here and that’s OK. I don’t mind if you think I have a bad take on this.

This is going down as the biggest screw job in Oilers history. Acknowledge it was an inside job and we do whatever we can to move on. It's that or stop watching the NHL.

And for the posters who accommodated this, take a long look in the mirror.

If the database is updated... it will have been a short lived reappearance.

The people who say that these guys and the others we lost wouldn’t have had the same opportunity here …you realize that makes the Oilers look worse right ? It’s not an “oh well”, it’s the that management just let these guys walk for older, more expensive and worse players, AND they don’t value the young players when they have them.

Savoie got 3 games with a leash so tight he couldn’t breathe. We’re gonna jerk him around too for the next 2 years until he gets opportunity elsewhere? Don’t forget, we also traded NHL ready Kesselring for a few games of Bjugstad who was useless while he was here, who immediately stepped into a top 4 role with Arizona/Utah, while Vinny D was getting exposed vs LA and Vegas in ‘23. That’s 2 top 4 dmen, a top line winger in Holloway, a 2nd line winger in Foegele, all DEVELOPED BY THE OILERS, traded away in 2 years. This organization is infuriating and incompetent.

Should start a Gretzky traded to LA bitch thread.

Same impact on future prospects for this team.
Not a trade though--a sale. Pocklington had run his financial empire into the ground. It was all debt financed anyway so lets call it the junk bond empire. Funny how that stuff tends to implode. At least Peter avoided jail, Bruce wasn't so lucky. He did some hard time in the slammer.

The trade was like the day Kennedy was shot. Everybody remembers what they were doing when they heard the news.

$15 million today would essentially buy you 1 year of Drai and 1 year of Kapanen.

Yeah, I don't get the kulak love. He has a few games where he is great, but the majority of his time here has consisted of him getting hemmed in, bleeding goals against, always unable to handle any pressure or move the puck. He was horrible throughout playoffs last year

What made Broberg and Holloway leave is that Jackson didn't sign them. They were all too happy to stay Oilers. They were given more and more opportunity. So will Savoie

Jackson thought he could outsmart the situation by spending all the cap space and then just telling his RFAs they had to accept way less than what they were worth. I'm on Broberg and Holloway's sides on this one.

The usage and development of both of them was fine. With Savoie it's fine. Maybe this time, when Savoie has to be re-signed, we sign him.

Just horrible

When he's a big reason why we've lost more than a handful of games, I'd say he's a worthy topic of discussion. But you and the other Moustache Cultists love seeing this team lose so he can stay in net. I hope you at least get to see him at the family gatherings!
This post more or less makes my point for me

Agree with this. They slow played both Broberg and Holloway for years when they deserved more playing time.

And in hindsight, the way they are performing with greater opportunity, means this management group f***ed up so bad. It's criminal.
