They can rebuild all they want but it actually starts with making good draft picks. Leafs have very few of those the past 10 years. What has changed that makes you think with a full rebuild they'll pick correct players now?

Drafting wise their problem have been low quantity of picks and not getting any homerun picks, something I believe has a lot to do with getting lucky (obviously not completely)

They actually have been quite successful in turning picks into NHLers.

He's projected to be a #1 C. I know its just a projection but by watching him play he has really shown he can and will be a #1 centre. Possibly in the second tier with the Backstroms of the league. He isn't being rushed either so that really helps.

Right.

And on the off chance that Nylander doesn't become a "2nd tier" #1 Center like the 4th highest scoring player in NHL right now...:rolly:

The point is, that entire plan is effectively the same team, minus the two best players, and adding in Nylander as an assumed superstar. That's not a "scorched earth rebuild", that's trading away the two best players and carrying on...putting the whole thing on Nylander's shoulders.

Good job Leafs management, after years and years and years of retooling, you've finally realized you have to rebuild.
I'm happy and pissed about this at the same time.
Happy that the suits won't matter anymore since most of them will probably quit coming and you'll just have empty seats behind the bench.
Pissed that now these clowns will now hop on the Raptors bandwagon and ruin the atmosphere there.
The NHL needs to do the Leafs a favor and give us the first pick in the Lotto, Rogers inked the tv deal, they'll have a discussion with good ol Bettman and we'll be on our way for McDavy. Also great job Pete Horachuk for driving the tank strong :yo:

As for Kessel, I'm going to miss his snipes and beautiful speed. Best player for the last 5 years he deserves to play for a contender.

Nice jab at our club, as if we don't hear it enough, you have to go and use their name as a verb on a thread title. The bashing never ends. Coming from Leafs Fans no less.

The Oilers are an Embarrassment to the sport of Hockey. This organization deserves every bit of mocking it gets. Even from Leaf Fans.

As has been mentioned, the Leafs do not need to go full rebuild as they've got some valuable pieces to trade, as well as keep for the future.

No, man. It doesn't. You don't get to bash our fans at your pleasure just because we have the misfortune of the ownership and management group that runs this club. Give us a break already, I can't believe this thread title is allowed in the first place.

Cool..

I'm an Oil fan, not a Leafs fan. And the term would be an insult towards the management group not the fans.

The Oilers "scorched earth" rebuild was embarrasing and a complete failure. So yes, it should be a term to use in this situation.

Oh please, there are always a few teams in the league at any point in time that are just perrenial losers for a decade. People act like the Oilers are special because we were last place twice in a row, but there have been teams who pick top five many times in a decade and seem to never gain traction, until one day they do. Florida and the Isles come to mind. This board absolutely has been picking on the Oilers as borderline harassment, because everyone likes having someone they are allowed to pick on. The way I've seen the logic morph to make this stick over the years is truly remarkable. At any rate it doesn't matter to me because ultimately I don't think the Oilers will stay down forever, but I'll defend anyone who calls out the pathetic haters who really should mind their own team's business.

The Oilers weren't very fortunate with timing. They seem to have got the worst string of 1st overall picks in a while. They're still great players, but not exactly the typical 1st overall picks from years before.

Development plays a big part in getting the most out of your prospects. Oilers have done a poor job at that.

I'm an Oilers fan and I find it disrespectful. Who gives a crap about out pathetic management...we live it and breathe it every single day. The term you're looking for is "scorched earth", not "Oiler". But, yeah, go ahead, rub more salt in the wound. Openly disrespect and bash our team's name on the main boards for your giggles.

It's a nice double standard when the first two rules of the site are being openly disregarded. "Don't flame, don't troll"...unless it's the Oilers. Because, you know, they deserve it.

I'm not mad, but come on, seriously?

They should be up and running in a few years. Definitely some solid pieces and depending what they can get for Kessel and others they will only add to it.
