The Leafs are flawed

The Leafs are flawed from the top down. Organizationally having a group own the team that has extreme power and control in Canada. Seemingly the fans and media are part of the issue. The players feel they have to take as much as they can. The culture seems to suck.

I LOVE this team. I want to see them win, but top down there needs to be a shakeup or Brad needs to trade a core 4 member. Something must be done let’s not waste another season. It’s so sad to think of how much of Austin and Mitches career has been a waste

Forget the fans at the game. Let HFBoards posters pick the starting lineup and manage the line changes in real time. Keefe can watch these boards with an iPad and adjust accordingly, without having to even watch the game. Penalties can be called from head office in NYC. All we need for non-players is equipment manager and zamboni driver. ;)

The leafs have the same record at this point last year as they do now. Last year this is right about the time they turned in on and didn't look back. Can that happen again? Yes, it sure can.

But there is something different this year. Last year a large part of their slow start was that Matthews didn't get going, the offense wasn't producing well yet. That changed.

This year that isn't the problem. The issue seems more of a 'fundamental/not easy to fix'. This team is very flawed on the back end, playing worse than they were last year. Matthews is 'going' already, for them to turn this around the need to play better team-D and that starts with the blueline. I don't see that getting fixed as easily this year.

What's strange is the Leafs "core 4" is certainly flawed. And yet, those are the only guys who produce lol.

Short of a major shakeup what can be done?

I’m sure there are a lot out there that wish they could quit this team but just can’t. We are stubbornly loyal to our detriment
Just lean into the long-suffering Leafs fan trope. You can score easy laughs with your friends, families, and co-workers, and retain your Leafs cred without getting overly defensive about things. I know that I'll be posting on this forum and griping about the Leafs when I'm in the nursing home 50 years from now, so it's not a big deal to take a few years off from tying my emotional state to the team's fortunes.

the "core 4" take up so much of the cap. it leaves little room to obtain a supporting cast that can actually contribute, but we all know this yet nothing's done about it...........

$16 million in cap space was burned in the off season on 4 players that collectively have produced 3 goals.

But sure, blame the Core 4 because we overpaid for Kampf and Ryan Reaves.

Every player besides the core 4 could be a “better player” if more than 16 mil was available. BTW, the pathetic defence and Swiss cheese goaltending say hi………

We got the most expensive UFA and a bunch of other mid-level guys... we spent 20 million this offseason...

We could replace Klingberg and Bertuzzi with Lagesson (or Timmins) and Holmberg, likely get better, and have 10 million to spend.

Samsanov has been wasted cap space, replace him with another backup and about 2.5 million...

This narrative is lazy.

So the core 4 taking up half the cap doesn’t create problems? Good to know, the lame D and Swiss cheese goaltending say hi………

The Swiss cheese goalie is 3.5 million and the good goalie is 800k...

The worst D we have is 4.1 million and can be replaced by a better D for 1 million it looks like...

There is 6.5 million you have to play with if you didn't sign them...

Not sure what your argument is... throwing money at the problem didn't help it appears.

Throwing money at the WRONG players didn’t help. Anyone who won’t admit the cap constraints created by paying 4 fowards half the cap is living in denial imo………
