Finally caught up to the season. Second ep was definitely the best of the series. They also casted a great Abby, i like her a lot. The actress for Dina has been good too.

Season has been good. I played the game but barely remember anything, obviously i remembered the Joel thing though.

I didn’t understand the last scene, why did she have a flashback of joel coming into her room?

They really needed to completely ignore TLOU Part II and come up with a new story line after season 1, but I guess they didn't want to upset Druckmann for whatever reason.

I fully agree. I thought to myself after Season 1 that they shouldn't rush to to the second game. I mean there's a f***ing 5 year gap between the first and second game. You mean to tell me there aren't any stories to tell from that time period? This would've been a great opportunity to deepen the lore and tell stories I'm sure Druckmann himself has in his head. I mean the characters are dropping names all the time, but it's hard to care about someone when they've only been mentioned. Oh Joel killed your husband? Why should I care?

I don't know. Seems like a wasted opportunity. Sure, they could still do it. Make a couple of seasons kinda like spin offs but since Joel was killed off, how many have tuned out already?

I think that scene was to setup this week being a flashback episode.

That was well before they knew what was involved. Ellie was never asked if she'd be willing to sacrifice her life.

We know what her answer would be (in part because of the conversations that occur afterwards) - but she wasn't actually given the choice by either Joel or Marlene.
As I predicted, she would have gone with it.

Again, Joel the monster/selfish asshole in the story. And people hate Abby?

By the way, Mazin said season 3 will likely be longer than season 2 and the whole story will likely take a 4th season to finish.

Jesus Christ, what an absolute heart shattering episode. At the end of last week's episode, I really was thinking this would have been an episode better off having aired before Joel's death. But now I'm thinking they did it perfectly. All the highs and lows of Joel and Ellie's relationship shown in a mini movie with you knowing the conclusion just made it sting that much more.

I think what this week's episode taught me is the games actually f***ing sucked, and the show following the game so closely probably ruined a potentially all-time great series quite frankly.
The first one especially is an all time great game. You have no idea what you’re talking about. The second game is actually fantastic as well gameplay wise but the narrative decision was dumb.

As a Dad of a 20 year old daughter. This one hit home with me. Great writing and Pascal 10/10. For me anyway.

The first game is amazing. The 2nd game had potential but narratively they kind of got high on their own supply and made some...interesting choices.

Yeah that's probably fair. First season of the show was phenomenal and if that was tied closely to the game then the games narrative for game 1 was probably quite good.

Game 2 clearly sucked ass though. And it sucks because an episode like this weeks really highlights how much potential the show could have had if they didn't follow the horrible writing of the game and ventured off path instead. Especially having an actor like Pedro as your lead, they could have had something brilliant.

Guess that would have upset most of the gamers too much though lol.

This episode confirmed it for me. The Joel/Ellie relationship is everything in this show, it's the heartbeat of the show and without it the show barely has a pulse.
I'm sadly going to have to agree. I actually like Dina's character too. But it just doesn't work at nearly the same level as Joel and Ellie do. Ellie's humor doesn't really work with any other character imo.

Joel is such an awkward but great father. The birthday stuff destroyed me knowing what was coming.

Me too, struck me hard seeing how close and happy they were at that time. Their chemistry is unmatched.

I'd say Joel did what any father would have done for someone they loved like a daughter. You can call him selfish if you want but doing what he did certainly doesn't make him less likeable. He had a good reason to do what he did just like Abby had a good reason to do what she did. Anyone who hates either one of them is taking things too personally.

How is Joel the monster? He looks at Ellie like his daughter, most people would probably do the same thing he did to protect that person.

Neither Joel or Abby are monsters. They did what they had to do.

Oh I don't know, he killed 18 people and shot an unarmed doctor. If you lived in that world and someone straight up murdered your only parent, would you not try to look for him and kill him?

Yea and like i said, Abby isn't a monster either for doing what she had to do.

And the doctor wasn't unarmed, he picked up shears to attack Joel with, despite abby not knowing that. The other doctors didn't and he didn't kill them.
