TV: The Last of Us (HBO)

Loved the first season but really not a fan of this episode, just too much focus on Ellie and her bratty behavior. The preview for the rest of the season looks promising through.

I thought it was awesome. I'm stoked for the rest of the season. Fingers crossed it rocks.
 
The episode was OK.

I would have preferred they went with how the second game started instead. It's more emotional and impactful IMO.

Even just the first 5-10 minutes with Joel and Tommy. I'm finding it hard to have any connection to this Ellie character in the show.

I feel she’s missing something that makes her Ellie but can’t really put my finger on it. It’s kinda like when you have an actor who you feel is playing the character more than being the character. But I still think that will change later in the series.

I also wasn't a huge fan of how they introduced Abby either.

But I'm sure my complaints are only because I loved the games and am more critical because of that :laugh: I just feel they haven't explained enough to the average non game playing viewer. Maybe that will change with flashbacks or something.
 
Didnt like that they started with the last scene from season 1, its an episode not a recap. Overall a good set up episode for the season, as mentioned Ellie's angst was a bit too much but if they are really trying to hammer down the wedge between them, whatever

Once the golf scene happens I’m done with the show

If I had any say in the show I’d switch around the actresses that play Abby and Ellie

Oh please. You know well that it has nothing to do with “liking the actress” and everything to do with Bella Ramsey’s looks. As is evident from the dozens of memes from middle aged men mocking her appearance, calling her ugly, or insinuating that she has Down’s syndrome.

Dina isn’t cast like the game character either, but Isabela Merced meets conventional beauty standards so the same people don’t give a shit.

Ramsey was great in the first season. My biggest criticism of the first episode of season 2 was that she still has a young look and it doesn’t seem like 5 years have passed. Otherwise it was a solid episode.

He who disses the appearance of Lady Mormont, deserves to be drawn and quartered. Or since they exist now, eaten by dire wolves.
 
Maybe people just don't like Bella as an actress?
Kristen Stewart is a bad actress and people made memes about her too. I don't think people considered her ugly, plain maybe? Back when she was a thing.
Her(Bella) looks might be driving some of it, but she's a poor casting choice for the character she's supposed to be portraying, much like Lord Farquaad in Snow White.

She was ok in season 1 because Pedro was there for all the heavy lifting.
The few dramatic moments involving her character last season were kind of ehhh. She did better with the gun scene, than the stitching scene.
This 1st episode showed that when they focus on her exclusively, it's going to suffer.
I'll give it 1 episode after the "golf tournament" to see if Bella can pull it off, but expectations aren't particularly high, because of her... Also lets be fair the story for LOU2 is kind of ass anyway.

I feel like if the show ends up closely following TLOU2, it will lose popularity pretty quickly.
 
I didn't really like the first episode. Five years have passed but Ellie looks pretty much the same and is even more of a brat now at 19. I thought her and Dina were both incredibly annoying in this episode. Not sure why they'd send a patrol out with both those girls and have it led by someone who's completely spineless. Hoping for more Kaitlyn Dever in the next episode.

Anybody familiar with the source material knows tomorrow is very likely THE big episode of the season.

I'll have to record because for some reason the Leafs are opening the playoffs on a Sunday

Kaitlyn Dever tried for the Ellie part, I wonder if they didn't give it to her because they really wanted her for Abby. I don't think Bella Ramsay would work as Abby though.
 
I don’t think either one of Joel/Ellies actors look like their video game counterparts but they’ve both done a good job portraying them.
