Pre-Game Talk: The Last Hockey Game of All Time

If you don’t know Carricks first name without looking it up you’re in for a tiny chuckle

Too bad we couldn’t get Connor McMichael

Carrick has more goals and points than Noah Philp in AHL despite being a Dman.
Also leads the Condors in PIMs.
We may be upgrading on D tonight with Nurse for Carrick swap (jk)

And the clippers. Going to be a shit show.
Actually, this year scheduling around Rogers is a bigger issue than Crypto. The only events happening at Crypto between tomorrow and May 18th are the Lakers playoff games which can still be a bit fluid and a Kylie Minogue concert on Friday May 2nd.

Unfortunately the optimal schedule would be Sunday 20, Tuesday 22, Thursday 24, Saturday 26, Tuesday 29, Thursday 31, Saturday 2, but Rogers has concertson both the 26th and May 1st messing with that scenario.

So unless they bump the concerts, we're likely looking at Game 4 in Edmonton being on Sunday 27, then Game 6 (if necessary) not until Friday May 2. Because of this, I wouldn't be surprised if the league pushed the games in LA to Monday and Wednesday leaving us with Monday 21, Wednesday 23, Friday 25, Sunday 27, Wednesday 30, Friday 2, Sunday 4, with a slight chance of them pushing Game 1 onto Sunday the 20th giving the Lakers dibs on Monday 21 or Tuesday 22 for their Game 2.

If I remember right I think a concert get pushed here a year or two ago for a playoff game, so there is precedent for it. No idea how that works though.

I think that was for Disturbed and a mid-week concert, which I suspect isn't as big a deal to move. This year that would be Cypress Hill, so I can't see that being a deal breaker especially since they are only doing the half bowl set up meaning it's likely only meant to be a 3000-5000 attendee show and looking at available tickets, they aren't even close to that so I suspect they could even move this outright to a different venue

I suspect bumping a Saturday concert where people from out of town were possibly making a weekend out of it and taking in the ice district may be harder to pull off, but even then Bush is only selling lower bowl, so who knows. This isn't exactly dealing with Shania Twain like last year.

Edmonton may deliberately use the concerts as an excuse to buy the guys an extra day off with the injuries.

If there ever was a time for the Oilers to get spanked by a shitty team with a competent GM, THIS is that game!

Wouldn't they tend to allow for the extra day of travel between Gm2 and Gm3? So Sunday, Tuesday, Friday, Sunday?

Sometimes. But not always. If they do give an extra day, it's usually is either between Games 2 and 3 or between Game 4 and 5, but not multiple times unless venues and TV are an issue. Sounds like the Lakers Game 2 is now Tuesday, so Game 2 will definitely be Wednesday now and Game 1 could be either Sunday or Monday. With that set, I'd be pretty confident suggesting they just go Friday/Sunday for Game 3/4 and leave the concert alone. Lakers Game 5 is also Wednesday April 30th, so I suspect they'd rather squeeze Game 5 into Tuesday the 29th instead of delaying it until Thursday the 1st, which would make Game 6 Thursday or Friday in which case I'd bet they'd prefer Friday anyways which would allow them to leave the concert alone.

So my bet now is:

Game 1 - Sunday 20 or Monday 21
Game 2 - Wednesday 23
Game 3 - Friday 25
Game 4 - Sunday 27
Game 5 - Tuesday 29
Game 6 - Friday 1
Game 7 - Sunday 3 (also noting Lakers Game 7 if necessary is May 4)

*Very long deep sigh* finally this f***ing regular season is about to end. The show must go on and its almost time for some real hockey.
The Shames are like the Oilers in the early 2000s. not good enough to make playoffs. Not bad enough to rebuild through the draft.
They won't be bad enough next year to tank for McKenna as well. Gotta love it! Perpetual mediocrity is that franchise's identity.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them take a big step back next year when Wolf faces the inevitable sophomore slump and teams have more of a book on him, but not enough to be in McKenna territory. I do think Wolf's a long term solution that will figure it out and help them become playoff contenders going forward though, but they'll have to get lucky again and find a star in later rounds like they did Gaudreau or find someone good like Tkachuk if they are picking 6-10 next year.

If they do then I’d hope they’d have the brains to hold that tournament in September and not in February. ;)
I joke about these sorts of things but the naming of children is one of the most "vogue" fashions out there. There was a time point where there could be 20 Connors in the same school because everybody is choosing the same bloody names even though infinite names exist.

"Your name is Connor because your parents lacked imagination and individuality" heh

If the Oilers did not luck into Draisaitl and did not win McDavid's sweepstakes, Taylor Hall would still be the Oilers' best player.

what does that even mean?

If the Penguins didn't luck into Crosby they're not even in Pittsburgh right now. If the Oilers don't beat the flames in the last game of the regular season in 2007, Patrick Kane is an Edmonton Oiler. If Nelson Skalbania doesn't know how to play Backgammon Wayne Gretzky was a Winnipeg Jet...

this could go on for days. what are you getting at?

Our D is scary :(

That backend lineup is horrific.

We need Walman back asap if Ekholm isn't going to be ready for the first series...

I love how Knoblauch said that Draisaitl will be ready well before the playoffs and now he’s still not ready. At this point, I doubt he’ll even start the playoffs. I can’t trust a word he says at this point.

That means that three years of number one picks would amount to nothing.
