I remember the night Glen Murray scored his 40th of the season, I think it was either 2002 or 2003, I was only 12-13 but for whatever reason I still remember it.

I think I recall Dale Arnold calling that game.

Glen Murray. Absolutely lethal shooting one timers from the slot on the right side of the net (goalie's left). Too bad that was about the only place from which he could score consistently.

A one-trick pony if I ever saw one. Once his wheels gave out and he couldn't get to that spot in time, he was cooked.

I think Vatrano is more of a sniper than Marchand. Marchand certainly is a goal scorer with a great shot, but he needs the whole package to put the puck in the net. It is more than just the shot, but also the deception, speed, etc.

Vatrano just has a legitimate sniper shot. Can be flat footed, facing the goalie, and still get it past him into the net.

That said, until now, I think Marchand is the best we've had since Seguin. Before Seguin, I'd actually go with Michael Ryder, then Kessel.

Before that... hm... Muzz?

I remember that as well. IIRC, it was also downhill from there rather quickly...

If that is true that is both amazing and kind of discouraging...

There's only been about 25 players in the league to score 50 since Neely.
And the only guys to do it more than once were Lemieux, Selanne, Bure, Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, Heatley and Jagr. - that's pretty elite.

Only players to hit 50 during the cap era are Ovechkin, Perry, Stamkos, Iginla, Lecavalier, Cheechoo, Crosby, Jagr, Kovalchuk. Heatley

I don't remember if it was this game, or the game where Guerin got his 40th, but I remember Tom Caron filling in on the Play by Play, and his call was "Lordy Lordy, he's got Forty"

PS - my brain is full of useless info like this.

That was Guerin. Remember it like it was yesterday.
