Saw the prospects thread about Senyshyn and how he is potentially a sniper and it got me wondering who was the last Bruins sniper. One they drafted or got early in their career.

I don't know the exact definition of a sniper, but I am thinking of a player that can consistently score from say the faceoff dot.

Marchand is close to that, based on last year, but I think he needs a few more years to prove it. After Brad I am having a hard time thinking of them. Samsanov ? again a maybe. Middleton I would say for sure.
Cam ? Others? Perhaps Ray had he been a forward, wasn't he the most accurate shot in the nhl for many years.

Nobody has done it consistently like Rick Middleton since he's been gone IMO.... Maybe Seguin and/or Kessel could've gotten there eventually but they didn't (as Bruins anyway).
Oh and BTW, I think the next sniper for the B's will be David Pastrnak.

Common thread here? Are snipers not welcome in this franchise?

Perhaps superstars are not favored here. Joe Thornton, not a sniper but a possible HOFer, was also run out of town. And the returns were far from favorable. Kessel's return brought in talent, but it was squandered.

I look forward to the likes of Senyshin and Bjork lighting up the red light frequently at Boston Garden and on the road. Agree that Pastrnak is our best comparable with Marchand right along side.

Vatrano has shown sniper qualities.

Neely is the last Bruin to score 50 goals. Heck, he the last Bruin to score 40 goals.
The year he scored 50 on one knee in limited games there was just no stopping him. Truly amazing.

Murray's overall game was limited... but could snipe

Brandon bochinski had almost no success here... but could snipe

I'd say vatrano is the current b most likely to be known as a sniper

Historically no one compares to Neely outside of hull and bossy for guys I've seen

We were very spoiled... but then robbed by the injuries of something very special

The B's have had terrible luck with their A+ players.
Orr, Neely, Iafrate, Klusak, heck even Samsanov and his wrist.

See some names tossed out that I think are more than pure shooters. Marchand himself... isn't a sniper in my opinion. He has a he'll of a shot but he doesn't find the open space... setup the shot.... and snipe

A guy lafleur or a Bobby hull... could shoot.. could score... but you don't call them snipers. Sniper is a limiting term for some guys

Ray bourque might be the most accurate shooter I've seen... his performance in skill competition speaks for itself... but he wasn't a sniper...

I think to qualify as a sniper you need to have shoot first menality. You have to live in the shooting lane... you got to have quick onetimer release ability..
