What about the Gretzky conference?

Hell, why not? Especially since there are awards named after most of the old divisions anyways. The geography thing is just so bland.

Suggestions (from anyone, just for ***** and giggles) as to what the others could/should be if that were the case?

EDIT: I now realize you said conference and not division...

Have to figure that Calgary, Edmonton and Phoenix are going to struggle mightily next season in this division, and Vancouver no longer exclusively gets the points for beating up on the bad NW division, coupled with them seeing more of LA, SJ and Anaheim, they should fall back a little bit to.

If I had to guess as of now...

1. Kings
2. Canucks
3. Sharks
4. Ducks
5. Oilers
6. Coyotes
7. Flames

Sounds like a college football conference to me.

I guess I thought the NHL would be unique and honor the greats.

The Pac-7 would sound like a college football conference.

The greats? Based on the name that has already been thrown out there, I would say that is much too soon.

I know what'll be good for conference names. How about Death Row Conference for the West and Bad Boy Conference for the East  :handclap:  :yo: :naughty: :D :p: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Yotes will be competitive, It's Tippet man. Eakins is going to make a difference in EDM.

EDM will play with some structure, and they have quite a lot of room to upgrade their D.

Calgary is a mess, an absolute cluster F^&*ck.

The Coyotes just don't have the talent to compete. We saw it last year, just lack the offensive firepower.

The Oilers still have huge defensive holes and zero veteran leadership. They desperately need to bring in a prime of his career 2nd line type forward who has won before to show these kids what it takes to be winning pros. Instead they have losers like Horcoff and Smyth collecting paychecks and just throwing these young players into the fire.

The Flames will be competing for the #1 overall pick. Everyone agrees on that.

Found this on the Internet.

Clearly, somebody was screwing around. By the way, this was the "old" proposed realignment in 2011 that was ultimately rejected.

Now, here is the current realignment, that has been approved.

I don't know if these division names were approved or not, but they seem logical.

I think Phoenix makes top 4 and Ducks fall out. Oilers may pass them as well.

In Atlantic I think Columbus and/or Carolina taking a wild card spot and pushing Rangers/Caps out.

Every time I look at that map I fee like the league started grouping cities together and forgot about tampa and florida.

What's the story behind that?

I am not 100% sure but something along the lines of the Coyotes owing him money, than when they went bankrupt the league took them over. The league than took on the coyote franchises debts however as the coyotes filed for bankruptcy they did not have to pay all of their debts.
