I don’t know how you let this guy make major transactions at the trade deadline. The team is done. Clearly, he’s done. JD should be done.

It’s time to find executive level upgrades.
To me I think there can be a directive from above that says - we're trying to be more competitive in 2024-25 and going forward and freeing up future cap space and adding young assets or picks is the objective (basically if we can move vets who are not in the long term future of the org then it should be pursued).
What I don't want (and there are likely controls in place) is for there to be trades to salvage the 2023-24 record while using up future cap space, or potentially trading young players or picks for veterans.

are we surprised jarmo hasn't re signed anyone with all our contracts up ???
The only ones that matter are RFAs so I can see why hes not in a rush. Probably still some internal debate on who gets offered long or short deals and maybe want to see how guys respond the rest of the way

Nah. I can’t even remember the last mid season signing jarmo did. I know he’s done Bob and Foligno before. And I know he did Danforth before the season, but other than that? Nothing comes to mind.

the only UFA who was worth re-signing was danforth, and they got that done (and for cheap). otherwise it's just roslovic and gaunce.

as for the RFAs:
  • marchenko: will have more leverage this summer, also may be waiting on a laine trade to clear up the RW1 spot long-term
  • sillinger: no incentive to negotiate (rough 22-23, bouncing back, just started playing on the top line, could buoy his stats to get a bigger payday)
  • chinakhov: same as sillinger
  • johnson: no incentive to negotiate this early (10.2c rfa)
  • texier: no incentive to negotiate right now (poor season)
  • bemstrom: probably getting non-tendered
  • bean: trying to make a case to not get non-tendered
there are lots of things to be mad at jarmo for, but not getting deals done early for this RFA class (even though it's a good one) isn't really an issue imo.

Don't forget it's not just Jarmo, iirc we've had a few guys who have said they don't even want to think about it during the season. They just want to think about their game and let their agents handle it in the off-season.

If you want to keep Jarmo through the TDL and fire him right after, I guess at this point that’s fine (presuming you can keep it under wraps and he doesn’t find out). I’d prefer probably to dump him now, but whatever.

My order of preference of firing:

1) Right now.
2) Day/week after the TDL.
3) Day/week after CBJ’s season ends.

If he’s employed by the Jackets on May 1, there’s a major problem. And I’m not a “hater” of his and am appreciative of the run in the early-mid of his tenure. But it’s four straight years of no playoffs. No conference finals appearances in 11 years. Only once out of the first round. One of the most embarrassing incidents of any team I’ve ever been a fan of with the Babcock fiasco…

It’s time.
Mine would be more like: 1) Yesterday 2) Today 3) Tomorrow

There really is no point in letting Jarmo be a dead man walking. The big off-season signings and the Babcock hiring were his swings at the fences, and by October we already knew he had missed badly. He also knows that. At this point he's wondering whether he still has a future in an NHL front office and that's a very dangerous thing. He could try to make desperation transactions in a last ditch effort to save his job, or at least convince some of the Old Boys around the league that he at least has "balls" - either way he knows he won't be in Columbus next season so he might want to make some noise instead of going quietly into then ight.

The only reason to not fire Jarmo is if there's an agreement in place to bring another GM (or even prez if JD also gets shitcanned) who's still under contract for this season. In any other circumstance, Jarmo should not be managing right now.

I will be in the wait and see mode until the next season starts and the final roster is set. Ownership, Jarmo and Torts all have the right to be questioned on this board for their motivations, moves and results. It's been 20 years since the start of this franchise and Jarmo and co. have been here since 2013. Jarmo has a mixed bag of results (good, bad and ugly) in roster moves, trading and draft selection. The team has been competitive the past few years and they have achieved their highest success as a franchise under this leadership group (one playoff series win). I'm sorry but that's not good enough. The roster today is no closer to winning a cup than they were when the season ended even with the addition of a couple of players I like. Everyone on this board knows the weaknesses of this team and they haven't been addressed. The people who for years have spent their hard earned money on season tickets, individual tickets, merchandise, etc., even through the most dismal of times, deserve better. They also have a right to be critical. It's easy enough to put together a history of Jarmos and cos. tenure with the CBJ and form an honest opinion. I'm waiting to see what happens.

This was October 11, 2020 and nothing has changed. It's like an old vinyl record that keeps skipping in the same place and repeating itself. The wait is over. The only thing I'm waiting on is to hear from JPM.

I know y'all are frustrated but some in the community is taking this doomerism way too far. The second we fire Jarmo he is going to be hired into the front office as an assistant to get his scouts which will follow him out the door when he gets removed. You can't tell me 29 other organizations out there would ignore what Ville Sirén and co have done with our prospect pool.

Earth to John McConnell. Earth to John McConnell.

Mr. McConnell, in 5 days Jarmo will have had a longer tenure than Dean Lomabardi who was fired after leading the LA Kings to their only 2 Stanley Cups.

This is Earth signing off. Have a nice day, Mr. McConnell.

How in tune with the players do you expect your GM to be, specifically about player issues/struggles?

Do we think that Jarmo was aware of Laine’s current situation? Obviously we don’t want to speculate the reason as to why Laine has entered the program. However, I’d expect in a majority of cases (regardless of the “problem”) having any information get out regarding the CBJ’s willingness to trade Laine would be detrimental to the player’s situation.

Its possible he has a good handle on it or none at all. Jarmo doesnt seem like the type to have a good pulse on those situations. Maybe theyve tried to work through things in house and it hasnt worked (the tough losing seasons wont help either) so maybe Laine feels its time to get away and try something new completely removed from the team.

I hope its something time and dealing with the right people can fix to a level where Patty is happy again. I hope whatever is going on is not in relation to that nasty concussion though

At least we don't have any former or current players getting arrested for sexual assault, so I guess it could be worse?

The yanking around of Jiricek should be the final, final, final, final, final straw on The Jarmo and JD Experience.

I think he will be gone in the mid season , but I would probably do it ASAP so the new GM has time to prepare for trade deadline and draft. That is assuming they already have candidates in mind
