Confirmed with Link: The Jakob Chychrun Thread (update: 3/25/25 | signs 8-year, $72M extension)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I feel like you contradicted your first sentence with your second. If 8x8 would get it done, it'd most likely be done by now. Getting what Carlson got many years ago with the cap much higher now would have been a cupcake deal for the team, even before they announced the upcoming cap jumps. But the market is adjusting up big now with that cap news, so it'd make sense if Chychrun's agent wants more.

Don't get me wrong -- I hope you're right. That deal would be great for the club.

Turns out I was only off by $1M a year, which I’m OK with! The Caps were probably at $8M as their starting offer and settled at $9M.

I think it is a hometown discount. He would get 9.5M or 10M in free agency. I’m sure this was the holdup along with trade protection. This is a great deal for both sides. Chychrun gets a long term deal in a place he has thrived and likes. Caps get a great player at reasonable price next two years and a great price years 3-8. LFG!

He’ll be overpaid by 320k next year and then underpaid for the following 7 years. IF(!) we consider him an 8M dollar defenseman..

A good to great deal IMO even though the AAV feels high right now as.
It’s better to sign players long term that feels a smudge expensive this offseason and reap the rewards as the cap continues to rise than signing players at their current value every offseason.

Caps management is doing everything right at the moment! But I guess we have to convince Marner to sign the ”Rantanen-contract” now..

Happy about this deal and that he’s locked up, but you have to wonder what the pathway for Hutson looks like. The easiest solution would be to ditch Sandin in a couple years but who knows.
Sandin and Fever will both hold solid trade value the next few years if Hutson plays his way onto the roster. It’s a good problem to have
