Hard disagree. Long-term potential and ability > short-term.
We only need short term and Murray is a superior goalie atm. You also risk hurting Hildeby’s development if he isn’t ready, which to me he isn’t. This isn’t about long term, it’s a stop gap to fill an injury. I go with Murray, and this is exactly why I argued we would need Murray preseason, with two injury prone starters. Anyways, see how it goes, hopefully Hildeby looks better than he has….

He's ready. An early tough start won't change that. He'll be ok. Murray is a journeyman who isn't very good, Hildeby is part of a future building block. He needs the experience.

Murray is excellent when healthy, we have him for just this occasion. Hildeby got a taste, he’s been the worst of the three with the Marlies too, he isn’t pushing for the job, YET. I admit, his play this stint hasn’t instilled confidence. He’s waaaaayyy too busy in the crease, more fighting off pucks than calm saves, looks shakey. I’m not sure he’s ready, we agree to disagree. And I’d add, the Leafs should just ditch Murray then, let these two kids have the net more in the AHL, why even have three, if you’re going to use him as your stop injury gap?

Certainly going to need to play a number 2 quite a bit or risk Woll as well.
We have three back to backs coming up quick.

I think we have way different versions of excellent. Murray has played 10 AHL games over the last calendar year. 3 games last year and he looked putridly awful. He has bounced back well on a great Marlies team. Hildeby hasn't been as great as he was last season so far but it's only been a 6 AHL games lol He's had 1 great start, 1 bad start and 1 average start in the NHL...

And Murray is there for this very reason. To be a veteran for the Marlies and maybe be someone to sit on the bench in a pinch. You always need 4-5 goaltenders between the NHL and AHL.

I guess we see if differently, I think he’s there for just this scenario. Carrying three is silly if he’s just a goalie coach. Who did we call up, Hildeby, I haven’t seen?

Hildeby started last game and is still up with the Leafs.

Likely because he’s waiver-exempt and Stolarz injury was initially seen to be minor.

Now that it’s 4-6 weeks with 4 back to backs in that time (Thanks NHL for giving us the most B2B’s in the NHL) with Murray injured I’d send Hildeby down and give Artur a look.

Hildeby sucked in the AHL and looked just as bad in the NHL this season. Beat clean on 3 routine saves by the struggling Sabres.

Hildeby was the only reason the Marlies had a chance last year. 6 games this year won't change that. He looked outstanding his NHL debut.

AA will get his chance next year just like Hildeby did last year.

Murray isn't injured either. AA was pulled last game (he looked bad) and Murray relieved him.

He tailed off last year too, to be fair.

I don’t know why we have him that start against Anaheim.

Anyways it’s time for Woll to go crazy.

The Marlies were awful, so no surprise. He's the only reason they even made it to the playoffs.

It's very weird to read all the anti-Hildeby stuff right now. He's still a good prospect with plenty of upside. He's earned his shot to bounce back.

I’m still high on him, don’t mean to be so negative. I just don’t see him being ready right now, he was shakey down there, which he admitted when he came up. He’s doesn’t look good up here to me, so I’m more worried about his game and what’s best. I’m not giving up on him at all, to me he’s an intriguing player. I just think an experienced backup like Murray with a very busy schedule, is the best play here for the team.

Hildeby put up .913 in the AHL last year and that means he's the guy? What the heck. Hildeby has generally been a bad goalie. He's only had one season in the AHL above .900.

Artur is 2 months younger than him, and drafted before him. I'd give him a look. If we have to use Hildeby, that's a different discussion. Hildeby hasn't had a good game in months, in the AHL or NHL.

Opinions differ.

I would take the 30 year old 2 time cup winner with a better AHL save % this season over the untried rookie that has struggled in the NHL.

.919 and 2.15
vs
.897 and 2.73

This is WHY we signed Murray. I would have him with the big team.
