Jarny can be back hopefully in time for playoffs. He's still a very solid player when healthy and can be a nice boost to us if he's able to get his legs before playoffs start and comes a around the deadline mark.

A big difference in quality between Stone and Jarnkrok. Also Stone played parts of the season whereas Jarnkrok played 1 pre-season game. Not impossible but if they are healthy and rolling, I don't see him getting into the lineup at any point this season. A long ways away though so we'll see.

Yeah, I wasn't comparing players, just the practice.

Matthews would be more equivalent to Stone ...

Matthews comes back, plays to the deadline, and then this "thing" flairs up again for a month, and a miracle happens the day before the playoffs start.

nah man, we need offence. We have other guys who provide defence and nothing else. Too many of those, in fact. He is useless.

I know you realize you just categorized the "other guys" as being useless, same as Jarnkrok.

Anyway, it would be nice if someone stepped up out of nowhere.

What I meant was, we don't need another guy like him. I am sure Robertson, or Steeves, or Holmberg, can can match Jarn's all zeroes stat line from last playoffs. The point is, we need guys who can score. He has no place on this team anymore. We need guys who can chip in during the playoffs. Defensively we are more than fine.

Yeah, Leafs aren't missing Robertson, Steeves, Holmberg, Jarnkrok in the post-season.
Even when they are in they are nothing ... (Steeves unknown in post-season)

Be hard to promote a top Marlies player and not match the above's contribution.

At this point Marlies are their only hope, outside of throwing more futures away for 8 week rentals.

He’s a ghost and largely ineffective in the playoffs in a healthy season. Throw in that he wouldn’t have played a game in nearly a full calendar year?

Yeah I wouldn’t throw him in a playoff lineup at all.

Sounds like he tried to rehab a muscle injury, and it just didn't work.

What a bizarre situation - was ever-present in pre-season, and now he's just gone

While Jarnkrok is pretty much a cardio merchant, he is only one of 2 players in the bottom six with a defensive conscience that I would trust to take a Defensive zone matchup save for Kampf. Not to mention he also PKs. He can also put up points if he plays with talent, something none of our bottom six can do.

I was hoping Holmberg would step up and make one of the above redundant but sadly, it hasn't occurred.

I think Jarnkrok will be back next year and will likely insulate Minten on the 3rd line.

William nylander get ready to play on the PK!

Kampf was one of the two bottom six players I actually thought was doing well. He and Lorentz made watching the bottom six bearable.

At least this gives minten an excuse to play in the NHL. Hopefully it goes a bit better than his stint last year.

The injuries are really piling up now for the forward group

Matthews, Patches, Jarnkrok, Kampf, Domi clearly playing through something

That's 5/12 regulars hurt

I think McMann, Lorentz and Kampf have played well enough. Domi is a good enough player, but hasn't had a good start to the season. If I'm the GM, I'm definitely looking at two bodies to fill the other spots. Maybe Minten fills the 3C for us, but honestly I think that's premature.

I'd make an immediate trade for Mathieu Olivier to play 4RW though.

Give Minten a shot at the 3C, see how he does, and if he isn't ready, then make a 3C acquisition. I don't think waiting for the deadline is the way to go with this team, and we can move out enough bodies to make cap room for most 3C's. Make the 3C move now, and see if that fixes the 3C scoring.... and if not, then we need a different winger on the third line, or give Grebenkin a shot.

Yes they are piling up and I think we should expect to see this all year as the Leafs run a 27-man and over the cap roster. They are hanging on to NHL depth with purpose and are using IR (Hakanpaa, Dewar, Jarnkrok, Kampf), waivers (Benning, Murray, Steeves) and conditioning stints (Myers) pretty effectively. We also have Hildeby, Minten, and Grebenkin we can call you and send down whenever we want/need to.

Interesting that Kampf goes on retroactive IR right when Reaves gets a five game suspension with no cap relief, no? Kampf goes out for a bit and we now have room for Minten and Steeves.

If they can do this juggling all year we will have 28 or so guys on our roster and be cap compliant heading into the playoffs. We should also be able to avoid spending assets on bottom of the roster players at the TDL.

Centre is thinning, but would rather have injuries now than later. Smart to keep Matthews out while they are winning. Get healthy, let some Marlies get some experience, show the team they are an option. Then you can trade somebody you need to. Teams play with desperation when there are a lot of injuries. Everyone levels up and aside from Matthews, shows there is good depth.
