It's left me speechless on several occasions.

Krug was fine this year. He wasn't an all star, but he was fine. Basically got what we paid for.

One of the issues with Krug is that this is supposed to be the good part of his contract. Year 1 wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. But years 5-7 probably don't look great. For him to be worth that contract in totality, he needs to be flat out better while still in his "prime."

The idea is that he can adjust like Faulk did, but maybe that doesn't happen. Scandella was probably worse his 2nd year here, but that's not as fun to think about.

Krug performed exactly how everyone should've expected. PP production is down a bit because our PP doesn't have players as good as Boston. Even if we had a healthy and prime Tarasenko to go with our group, I'd still take Boston's group with Pasta/Marchand/Bergeron/Krejci. His 5v5 usage also changed significantly. He went from getting fed offensive minutes to much more of a 2-way role with times of being the top pair. The key is getting an upgrade over Scandella, to allow Krug to be used in a role he's designed for.

He was actually on a pace for more 5v5 points per 82 games this season than his average over the last five years. If we can manage to upgrade Scandella to a top pairing LD and slot Krug in on the 2nd pairing, I could see him with 30 ES points and 25 PP points next season, but finding that upgrade is going to be a tall order.

Yeah, and if he gets a few more goals with his shooting % reverting back to mean, then his stats look even better. He had an 82 game pace of 51.66 points and people act like he had a season that Faulk had in his first season. Krug was exactly what we thought he'd be and his cap hit for that is fair. It's just similar to Schenn and Faulk where the term is long.

Maybe people can argue that Dunn can do that role at a cheaper rate, but Krug is a significantly better all-round defensemen, even with his limitations, and a better PP QB IMO, he's really good at keeping pucks alive and the puck moving. A limited shot, but once the PP had 2 quality shooters on each of his sides, it was much more dangerous.
