Franz Reindl interviewed by TASS, here & here & here.

Some key statements if he is elected to the IIHF President.

-wanting to reach a long-term agreement with NHL about the Olympics
-bringing the youngest generation, more commercially sucessfull IIHF events (all) even though Fasel did a good job.
-keeps having a good relationship with Russia & its hockey officials like Tretyak & R.Rotenberg
-would welcome more IIHF events in Russia

According to report by Klaus Zaugg, IIHF General Secretary Horst Lichtner has been relieved of his duties, interim IIHF General Secretary is Gion Veraguth. Big candidate for IIHF General Secretary after September´s election is Christian Hofstetter.

Is anyone concerned that despite having less than 1/3 of the world's hockey players and already over 50 continuous years of IIHF presidents that once again there will be a European IIHF president? What will it take for the IIHF to actually represent more than just Europeans?

Two of the three Vice Presidents are non-European (Hu Wen Xin and Bob Nicholson).

And if Bob Nicholson is elected as the Senior Vice President, American Dave Ogrean would be 3rd non-European in the position of Vice President. But I agree with your scenario.

If find it interesting that Luc Tardif is not nominated for the position of the Senior Vice President. Likely this position will be occupied by a guy from losing camp (Nielsen or Bříza or neutral Nicholson).

Guessing all five candidates will likely be the Council members, just with different position. Gontcharov is questionable.

Reindl
Nicholson/Bříza/Nielsen
Nicholson/Ogrean
Asian representative
Tardif
Bříza/Nielsen
Kolbenheyer
Zawadzka
Nicholson/Ogrean
Bure
Gontcharov (?)
Raffainer
Hietanen/Larsson

The IIHF Council will consist of 14 members

I suppose Tardif's Canadian background works both for and against him at the same time depending on the position.

Henrik Bach Nielsen

My Proposal: Starting from Division 1B and down (except the Senior Men’s 1B), the World Championships, in all categories, would be played once every second year. In years when it is not played, participating MNAs would receive direct development funds from the IIHF.

while in the other year they would receive USD 200,000 for the development of ice hockey in their country.

This sounds great, but I do hope IIHF will ask for bills of where did that money go, otherwise it could, speaking for Croatia, end up in private pockets.

Of course,

But I think the IIHF is too conservative to approve such a change. And Bach Nielsen is not a top candidate. Difficult to win for him. I just put it here to collect all statements by all candidates.

“We have built well-functioning relations with the KHL and the Russian Hockey Federation over the years. We expect René Fasel, with whom we have a long-standing relationship, to resign as IIHF President this month. His successor will be elected and Fasel will become a consultant for Russia (hockey federation) and for the KHL, which will only strengthen our good relations with the Russians. I am optimistic about this issue, “Daly told NHL.com/International.

Today Fasel said to the Russian media "we will see, everything is possible"

I guess you need to educate me how has Fasel influenced anything at all in this "relationship". NHL does whatever it feels like it since forever.

Fasel established closer contact with the NHL, and his efforts, combined with the cooperation with Gary Bettman, led to the NHL releasing their players for the 1998 Winter Olympics. While it is true that the IIHF-NHL relationship at times has been shaky, he has probably worked harder than most to keep the NHL in the Olympics.

You can probably criticize Fasel for various things, but his work with keeping NHL players at the Olympics is in my opinion not one of them.

René’s achievements go well beyond his many contributions at the elite level of our game. Whether it has been his focus on player safety, growing the women’s game, or working with the various hockey federations to grow the game in less traditional hockey countries, Rene’s efforts have been tireless.

Fascinating look at what is discussed and what thoughts shared at an IIHF Congress meeting between all nations.

Rene Fasel will be missed. Legend of International Hockey World.

Luc Tardif in 2018: „We are working on bringing the KHL World Games to Paris, France. And the question arises why not to launch KHL club in France? Of course, we need to work hard to make it happen.“
