When this team isn't mentally engaged in a game, they play some really bad hockey. Lazy passes, half assed board play, lots of standing around, flat footed defense leading to dumb reach in penalties and an offense that just pumps shots from the blue line.

The whole system and team dynamic is predicated on high energy and fast reactions. Games like this, when the energy level is low, it breaks down.

FWIW this is what it’s going to look like someday when we lose our top talent and their replacements can’t keep up. People will talk about “Rod losing the room” because it looks like shit when the legs aren’t moving fast enough. Feel free to quote this post the day we start talking about how some other coach could get more out of the lineup (which is what will happen temporarily by allowing them to play even slower, shittier hockey).
