*snorts line* Easy Hawks Trade Win

Could've been:

Adam Boqvist
Wyatt Johnston
Matthew Knies
Pavel Mintyukov

Yikes that would've been something.

Less the spectacular drafting by CBJ unfortunately for them.

Funny you added Mintyukov there considering how bad he’s been this year and has been scratched multiple times this season. But I digress, fantasy is fun.

Hawks did a pretty good job drafting Forwards, the lack of drafted Defensemen and overall mismanagement lead to the decade of darkness. Some was inevitable when you're going to pay the price a bit for being so all in (and worth it), some a bit bad luck with Toews premature decline and then a lot just really poor decision-making, with a 2nd and 4th for Timmonen (blood clots and hadn't played yet that season, I know they won the Cup, but Timmonen was completely useless) the first domino.

Didn't Timmonen cost two 2nds (and whatever other lower round pick(s))? It was even brought up very recently elsewhere on this board.

Technically it was a 2nd and a conditional 4th. The condition just happened to be winning the Stanley cup, so best case scenario occurred lol.

Trade ended up being a big nothing burger as the picks were used to draft busts, same with the Vermette trade.

Hawks were one pick from Quinn Hughes in the Boqvist draft...when you think about how long the playoff streak has lasted, its things like that because they were most likely taking Quinn at 8

Hearing Vancouver call Quinn's name still haunts me.

I thought for sure when Detroit passed on him (I figured they'd go for the Michigan kid) that he'd fall to us.

I've been pumping Slaggert forever but he's never gonna have that kind of jump. If he hits he's a better defensive version of Bertuzzi.

Noone expected Hagel to either. 6th round pick came out of nowhere. Hell I was one of the biggest defenders of Hagel during his time and after he was traded (especially to KBS who called him Grindy McGrinderson/AHL talent, etc) and not even I expected 30 goal, 75 point Hagel even with the talent in TB.

He could be Zach Hyman but he's never gonna skate like Hagel.

I think the big differentiator between Slaggert and Hagel will be their shots. Hagel has a B level shot. Slaggert's is more NHL average (C level).

Slaggert has done well scoring near the blue paint in lesser leagues, better than what Hagel did before he hit the NHL. But that net front goal scoring would need to almost perfectly translate for him to generate as much as Hagel does with Tampa. Or he needs to show noticeable improvements on his shot.

Think Hawks-era Hagel is an attainable goal for him. Tampa-era Hagel is asking too much of him right now.

Goodness - Slaggert will be lucky to carve out a career as a 3/4th liner. Hagel? Hyman? I think that's high, high, HIGH pie in the sky thinking.
