GBU The Good, the Bad, the Ugly - Booshception, Sabres win 6-3 over Ducks

No, he’s not completely ineffective 5 on 5. You nitpick games when the whole team plays bad and he’s become the whipping boy based on his longevity here. He’s had bad nights, no lying about that, but acting like a 3rd liner on pace for 40 goals is something this team doesn’t need is beyond short sighted. If he goes, who back fills him? Brett Murray, Biro? Those guys aren’t sniffing 20 goals in a season. VO can be streaky and has lapses in the defensive end but he’s certainly being ignored on these boards when he’s not.

I could say the same thing about Mittelstadt.

On January 6th, he was on pace for twelve even strength goals for the year. 12. That’s not nitpicking. Twelve!

That’s not a third liner pacing for 40 goals. That was someone pacing for 12 3rd line goals. I’m as glad as anyone else he is playing better and producing. But thinking people need to eat crow about him is a bit much on account he was unproductive at even strength for three months

You just like to bitch and need a whipping boy. Nobody is saying he’s Patrice Bergeron. He’s been very solid over the last 20 or some games. Only Sabres fans would bitch about a guy on pace for 40 goals on the 3rd line. Biggest whiny fanbase outside Toronto.
You make seem as if any criticism of Olofsson is unwarranted... You are aware he also has the ability to be complete invisible for 20 games right?

Are you just going to pretend he was pacing for 40 goals all season and the bitching was unwarranted? Again, the dude was pacing for 12 even strength goals for the season into January. That’s not good

Granato referenced 3 players who have taken criticism.

Krebs, Olofsson and Boosh.

Olofsson, zero criticism. Except here for some reason.

Krebs, likable guy. Hardly any criticism that I've heard.

Boosh, different story. Hasn't shown himself to be a smart player until recently. Good sign hopefully

But whatever you need to say I guess.

It’s not unwarranted but acting like he’s useless and an anchor, which many have, is unwarranted.
He has been useless and anchor is our point... right now, he's playing great. No one is denying that.

But his issue has always been consistency and you can't deny that

He either fills the net with pucks or he is invisible. That's all I am saying.

Everyone was acting like he wasn’t doing anything at even strength was because he wasn’t. And he absolutely wasn’t.

Thinking everyone should eat crow on that because he’s now producing at even strength is a bit much.

If you think Olofsson only received criticism here I don't know what to tell you.

Tuch has been great. Skinner is in a cold spell (even though he scored), and Thompson, no idea what is going on. It's like the movie 'Awakenings' where they gave the comatose folks L-Dopa and they regained conciousness, only to fall back into their previous state. Tage continues to get on the score sheet, so I guess we just need to be patient.
Yeah, Tuch is by far the best of the trio, but he’s still dumb as a box of rocks sometimes. Luckily his hustle game makes up for it

Didn't Hasek get hurt at the end of the 1st round, and that forced us to put Fuhr back in? Or am I misremembering?

No.

Fuhr was benched in game 4 (he should have been benched long before that, we swept Boston because Moog somehow was even worse). However, Muckler went back to Fuhr in the second round, and he was terrible

2 schools on Olofsson
1) He's going to get a first round pick
2) He's good for 20 games a season

:D

why not both.

I'm more than happy to be wrong on Olofsson if he can play with this kind of intensity and contributions for 30-35 a year. He's been great. Consistency is key in his case.

I'd like to see him on a line with Cozens in place of a rookie.

Never know, maybe Jost and Mittelstadt will get Quinn going too

Olofsson when he's playing like this is great, absolutely should not move him if we are being serious making the playoffs this year. Issue is he is as streaky as it gets and when he's not scoring he's not doing much else. But man can he score.

Unless a move for a top 4 defenseman is the return I think hold onto him until the offseason at the very least.
Naw, if he can continue to play complete hockey and compliment Jost and Mitts he's more valuable than any D we'd get. And I've wanted to trade him as much as anyone.

Maybe if the sevens line slows down a bit, sure.

But right now I'm very much of the "ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. The sevens line and the KOG line are going. The kid line goes in spurts. Skinner and Tuch are trying to drag Tage around for now.

The 3 non-KOG lines need to figure out how to play in their own end better.....but offensively, I don't see a pressing need for change right now.

Fuhr got hurt which is why you see Hasek celebrating the May Day goal.

Hawerchuk was a man possessed in the second round. He deserved the win himself.

Noticed how you didn’t say anything much about the rest of his game. That could be a factor of why fans criticize Oloffson. Outside of his goal scoring, which he’s a streaky player, he doesn’t produce much in the rest of the game. His overall game has been massively inconsistent, for a good amount of games, when he’s not scoring goals he’s been invisible in creating offense for others, and invisible in his end. Even when he is scoring, he’s still invisible. But there are fans that will forgive a player if he scores a goal despite being useless for the other 15-17 mins of the game.

Despite scoring 15 of 19 goals even strength, he’s a -10, and he only has 6 assists with his goals. That paints him exactly as the player he is.

He’s playing at a high point, which we have seen for years now. Nobody should be eating crow right now, because he has shown he will go quiet.
