Good: Went this one and had a seat right on the red line for the first time (with a bleeding nose). Really appreciated the view it afforded.

Bad: The nice view made it easy to see the mistakes that led to goals against. I know, injuries, but this team has struggled with bad d pinches/poor forward coverage for defensemen since before Samuelsson and co. went out. Something needs to change with that. HM for Tuch, who has been consistently bad since Seattle. Also a premier offender regarding…

Ugly: Physical play. 11:31 of the 2nd period. That’s when Asplund threw a bodycheck on the forecheck. Was there another one tonight by the Sabres? I saw Mittelstadt try and fail early in the 3rd. VGK certainly had a lot of success when their forecheckers actually hit the Buffalo D. Lots of forced turnovers. This team is way too soft. They peel off every hit. Rarely go to the net.

If it’s developing year, then kids need to learn confidence. And they’re never going to do that when the team is timid and physically overwhelmed game in and game out. Players need to step up.

Its amazing how often we deflect goals into our own net. I can’t recall a stretch like this
It's because Comrie doesn't cover enough down low. In many cases these goals would just hit the goalie pads instead of going straight in.

Huh?

We should all check what Anderson and Comrie were doing prior to the Vancouver game, and then what happened after. That’s the point when Samuelsson went down, and the D corps turned into an AHL squad.

Comrie got beat on a PP 2v1s, a breakaway, a back door rebound, and two deflections off his own team. He stopped all but one breakaway. He got beat by Eichel off the rush who basically had a free ride into the zone.

Maybe it’s the defensive play and not the goalie?

This is so true - this Team is giving up so many odd man situations that no goalie in this leage would save all the time - they have to clean up that part of their game to win

It's happening all over again.

I don't want to be the one to say it but Tuch is starting to feel like more of a novelty "50 point guy who likes the city and is cool with the UB co-ed crowd" than an actual force.

Mitts looks fine and Thompson has proven me wrong again and again so I'm not even going to pretend he's not good. He is. He's really good.

We had a short-handed defense but some of the guys out there tonight (Bryson!) should be retired instead of putting them in the AHL.

Good for Eichel. The absolute SOB he is and the same guy who big-timed Josh Allen is rubbing it in our faces and we deserve it. I deserve it. I forgot that he'd a #1 generational pick in any other draft.

Also, last on the list, but good lord am I looking wrong about Krebs. I thought he was going to be driving the offense but he's been a zero night after night.

Reading these threads after losses makes me think that half of the fans in here are unaware that the team is missing two of their top 4 defenders and have a third that is playing injured.

If Joker and Samuelsson were healthy, I am pretty confident this game is a W.

And anyone whining about the goaltending, you have got to realize that no goalie in the league currently is going to put up good numbers with defensive efforts like we saw tonight.

Wait till the D is somewhat healthy again and the amount of extemely dangerous chances should plummet, and with that, the goaltending should be adequate again.
The annoying part is they want to sit good D to play guys who do nothing like Fitz in this game and he is basically giving the opponents a GA every night with a mistake. Bruins missed their best D for the first 10+ games and are at basically the top of the league.

Interesting point from many of you on the GBU.......

Disappointed with Comrie. I thought Sabres might finally found a gold nugget. Bottom line, he's not good enough. (I.e.; Eichel's 2nd goal...... that one was stoppable. Prior to that Comrie stopped 2 breakaways . So what gives?)

The Sabre's defense is in bad shape right now. It's ugly. Injuries to the backline have really hurt this club. Playing AHLers is not gonna plug the gaps.

Overall, Vegas simply has more skill and talent as a team than the Sabres. Eichel and Rino could still be here and it wouldn't be enough. Sabres have some bright spots but not enough of them. And a couple of decent players are not coming anywhere close to meeting expectations. (Looking at you Mr Tuch...)

I'm going to hold so many people accountable if the Sabres still lose games when Samuelsson and Joki are back especially if they lose to the teams recently played.

So sick and tired of the missing defensemen excuse.

Who did you want him to go after?
Vanecek. He was more of a proven and stable guy, with not the best defense for the Caps. I'm not against Comrie but I wish we had two goaltenders who can compete for the number one spot but Anderson can't do that because he's 41 and is unlikely to play more than 20 games in a season.

I have no problem with d being aggressive in the neutral zone. The problem is they do it when they don’t have the forward in position to back check and fill a spot. Which is why we give up a lot of odd man rushes. That’ll happen when you’re icing 2-3 AHL d-men. But the forwards do need to worry about the back pressure more than they have lately.
We’ll get great o zone pressure, which ends up with 3 forwards below the top of the circles and then the d-men still pinch when they should play it safe and all of a sudden we’re facing a lot of odd man rushes.
The worst part is this isn’t the post lockout team where we would give up odd man rushes and get them back ourselves. We really don’t create many odd man rushes. And without a Ryan Miller to bail you out we’re going to be in tough playing this way.

Like I said after last game I'm not sure what people were expecting this season. Yes they have had a bad week with 4 straight losses but outside of the Arizona game they have played pretty good against the top teams. Missing 2 top defensemen have really hurt them. After the Boston they have a much easier schedule.

Comrie needs to be better I will give you guys that. The fact they are still scoring lots of goals is a good thing. So many of you keep forgetting they are one of the youngest teams in the league and are still developing.

Bleh

Good

Thompson (Hino-Thompson-Skinner looked good enough to run another game)
Cozens
Game was much closer/even than score

Bad

Comrie.....makes the impossible saves but not the average ones.
Krebs....he HAS to knock off the stupid penalties. Last night that penalty and ensuing goal set the tone. 5 min is (1st shift) is ridiculous and kills the start they had. Get Quinn in sit him already.
Breakaways
Tuch....MIA

Ugly

Sabres fans reaction to Jack showboating a bit. After last year and the sh*t they put on him for losing, I'd come back like that after a 4 pt gm as well.

I actually got to catch part of this game.

A few thoughts:

- Would like to not see Power as the last guy back on these 2 on 1s. He's not great at them. He will probably figure it out...eventually.

- Props to Mittelstadt for putting in the work on faceoffs in the offseason. The only guy who didn't get destroyed last night at the dot and humming along at 52.5% for the year over a decent sample size. I thought he needed to add an extra dimension to his game to be a viable long term NHLer, he appears to have.

- Comrie wasn't great but neither was the team in front of him.

- Power play isn't going to tick along at 25% all season. Need to get better 5 on 5.

Overall, I feel like the up and down nature is simply what we are going to see all season given how young the roster is. I'm interested to see how they respond to a dominant boston team up next.

G:

- my stream eventually started working
- Jack had a strong game for Vegas
- Tage had a strong game. A man that large should not have the hands of someone a foot shorter
- Mitts. Strong on faceoffs and finally scored

B:

- another damn loss
- the depth is AHL level, instead of “in the AHL because we can’t carry that many on the main roster” level
- this team has no idea how to defend a 2 on 1, but it’s better than…

U:

- giving up so many breakaways. The only plus to them is that the goalie knows there’s one option that’s gonna happen
