fox was completely humbled. could not take the forecheck pace or physicality, had to be sheltered and even in the ozone could not find any time or space and had to bail out and play conservative a lot. he basically became branstrom against that kind of competition.
marner somehow found a way to contribute and stay afloat. my god was he soft though. i can't even think of an analogy to another player that soft who contibuted in a game like that. petr klima in that scf game against boston maybe, but marner played a regular shift. kyle wellwoodesque for sure.

let the kiddo stay up to watch this, what a moment. he called mcdavid scoring “because he has to do something.”
i didn’t watch a second of this tournament before tonight and had zero interest until a certain wannabe dictator tweeted. but what a fun game.
binnington, jesus christ. like vintage bill ranford playing a million miles over his head.
thought marner looked good all night. he never took over but every time he touched the puck something good happened and during that second period lull he was one of our only guys creating anything. when he was put on mcjesus’ line in the third, marner would create and then the play would die on mcjesus’ stick. glad OT was different.
and prior to the marner switch, stone was just an anchor dragging mcjesus’ line down. noticeably the worst guy tonight.
doughty was really noticeable at the beginning of the game and in the third but i didn’t even notice him between. but when he was on the ice at the end i honestly was never worried usa would score.
the other old guy, marchand, looked completely cooked at the start of tbe game but then found life in the third.
but you can see why you still need to have guys like doughty and crosby on these teams. all those big game reps since they were kids fifteen years ago come in handy and i’m sure steadied young guys like harley and jarvis, who both had great games.
and OT but mcjesus’ brother, kind of a snack right?
