He didn’t wear a team Canada sweater like the American captain did. Sorry I have trouble spelling Mikes last name. In fact not one hint of Canadas colours. He gave the American team the thumbs up when he walked by him. He’s in photo ops with a certain political figure from America. He’s getting disowned by a number of Canadians.
I didn't even pay attention to any of that during the game tbh. Why does it matter? He was propably there just to have fun and people in twitter lose their shit.

So let me get this straight. Matt Tkachuk stages a fight so he can look good. Picks a smaller non fighter, so he can win. Gets injured during the fight. Brags about the group chat to media upsetting his teammates. Then he insists on playing the final, only to be too hurt to actually play and leaves his team short handed. And they lose in OT.

Amazing
Yup. And apparently JT Miller is a dink for not liking it.

Maybe JTM’s ego was damaged by the public beat down he took in a fight he insisted upon? So he took out his frustrations on his teammates.

This is what Brad Richardson said in his exit meetings with the canucks

He said don’t put JT Miller around young guys as he will absolutely lay into them

He is an insanely straight shooter

I actually like how hyper-competitive Miller is and his attitude actually belongs in the NHL I grew up watching. With that said calling out your teammates in the media for talking about something said to the media is… Well, yeah certainly one way to go in your glass house JT.

It's a nothing quote in context but drama does follow this guy around.

When things go to shit these guys will eat your soul away.

Still, I'm glad we got some personality left in the league. Same can be said about those little rascal katsuk bros

Miller addressed the Tkachuks about leaking /talking about the group chat after the USA/Canada Round robin game.

For those that don't know.... The Tkachuk brothers revealed that Team USA had a few players on group chat discussing/staging fights vs Canada to start the game in the round robin.

Miller wasnt fond of this getting out to the public for whatever reason and told the Tkachuks to pretty much stfu next time and keep it in the room.

Alpha Dog Miller barking loud already!

Context for clarity:

NOT a fan of Miller but he is right.

Miller was also quoted as saying, "Hey Brady, next time YOU fight Parayko and I'll fight the guy who is 6'1"."

Reminds me of one of my old bosses.
He reminds me of your old boss, too.

Reminds me of JR. Hyper competitive and also outspoken. Was a superstar American player in a time when most of the biggest names were Canadians and Russians. Could play with the best of the world and give up nothing.

In 1995 he was a hero for his play and his attitude and speaking his mind to teammates and media. In 2025 he's a big mean bully.

Nevermind that small town Canadian MacGinnon is a bigger psychopath hyper competitive who yells at teammates for missing passes or eating carbs.

Transcript of the Group Chat:

Matthew T : We'll all fight a Canadian to start Saturday's game. I'll fight Stankoven.

JT Miller : First, he's half your size.

Matthew T : Exactly!!!!

JT Miller : Second, he's not even on the team.

Matthews T : What about Caufield? I've wanted a piece of that LITTLE punk for years.

JT Miller : Um... Caufield's American.

Matthews T : Is there anyone on Team Canada under 5'8" because I'm ready to scrap ???

The resemblance is remarkable

So incredibly cringe and unprofessional to even have a group chat about staging fights, goes to show where the minds of many US players were, Canada was focused on winning the tourney as a team, many Americans were focused on staging fights. It's something a junior team would do, not the mens level.

I know some pro athletes have intentionally told themselves that they have beef with someone to perform better, even if beef doesn't really exist. Shaq did it with Robinson, Jordan famously wanted to have beef with everyone.

Is it possible JT Miller is trying to do that, and just doesn't really get it?
I think the most infamous version of this, is the Larry Bird/Magic Johnson Converse photoshoot. Where Magic went to Bird's property in Indiana to film a commercial for Cons and they got along great. Magic went to say what up to him pre-game to say whaddup, and whatever and Bird just outright ignored him. Told him later he needs to view Magic as an enemy on the court.
