Good I didn't wake up for that :D

We are going to get destroyed this tournament.

Could have been even worse. 3 posts / cross bars for USA in the 1st...
Never doubt a roster with McDavid, Mackinnon, Crosby and Makar, rounded out by ridiculous NHL depth.

The US is an incredibly good roster, but not having Quinn holds them back a little. I'm much more scared of what they'll look like in the Olympics with a healthy Quinn one step closer to his prime.

Matthew Tkachuk scares me the most on that US roster. Matthews has looked fairly underwhelming for a while now.

Should be some good competition tomorrow.

As I have no favourites in this tournament,
I’m just really looking forward to seeing Canada vs USA game.

We are in for some great eye candy,
talent in those rosters are ridiculous.

Everyone until puck drop tomorrow night:

This will probably get deleted but good on Cam Robinson for the follow-up question

Texting with an American player who asked to remain anonymous.

I asked how he felt about the US anthem being booed. "Don't love it. Makes you kind of cringe to see that."

I then asked what he thought of the continued threats of annexation and the President calling the Canadian PM "Governor"

"Yeah, when you look it at from that side, I wouldn't like another country threatening to swallow up mine (country). Especially one as big as the US. Would probably do more than boo an anthem..."

What other side would they look at it from? Canadians just started booing their anthem for no reason? Some hockey players are really dumb and naive.

But good on Cam to follow up with the second question.

Another fun game with USA-FIN. Physicality was ramped up.

Hughes-Matthews were electric together. Constantly driving the Finnish defense back and creating chances through the middle of the ice. They will be a handful for some of the defenders who I thought didn't handle the game well in Game 1 (Doughty, Parayko).

The Tkachuks with Eichel can play any way they want. Gonna be intense and physical. I get that Canada is bringing Bennett in to match that, but I am concerned about the 3rd line as constructed. I'm not sure they'll be able to match this level of play.

Canada's big boys will need another big game. No softies from Binnington.

That's a big ask.

A lot of people are really dumb and naive. The Butcher, the Baker, the Candlestick maker. Dumb tradesmen etc. Thing is no one pays good money to watch any of those people work.

Hope it goes well for Lankinen, except for if/when Petey is shooting.
Kinda' feel for Finns. At the end of the day, they're a very small country. And while their top-end players are world-class, the lack of depth really shows in a tournament like this.

And the loss of a blue-chipper like Miro Heiskanen on the blueline is just too big a blow to overcome. Lankinen could be under siege.....but nothing he's not used to this season in Vancouver. I'm pulling for him.

So in your words the best team in the NHL that season, and probably in a decades time by pts, and pretty much every other measuring stick, wasn’t special?

They lost a seven game series after being devastating by injuries…

To win a cup you don’t just need to be good, you have to be very lucky. We were only 1 of those things.
Special teams win championships. You can go on and on about the Nuck's dominance in 2011 but in the end it doesn't mean anything at all. They just didn't get the job done. Like the 2007 Patriots. Nothing else matters unless you are on the winning side at the end of the last game.

That team wasn't just unlucky:

One game was the difference. One game dude. You can’t live life jaded like that based on what basically amounts to a coin flip.

Tell me that team wanted it less than Boston. Tell me that lie, and say it with a straight face.

If you can’t, you already know the truth. If you can, I’m so sorry for you dude.
Well Boston must have wanted it more because they won convincingly in game 7. Sorry, but it is nothing to celebrate about. Luongo couldn't stop a beach ball and the team toughness disappeared. The Vancouver franchise is just as successful as their expansion counterpart though.

Of our, like, 12 most important players 10 of them were injured to the point where they wouldn't have been playing regular season games. The team just broke down and a team that had a comparatively butter-soft run to the Finals was able to capitalize.

Oh, and those playoffs were 100% rigged.

Everyone here knew who ever scored first in game 7 was winning the game. Anything after the 1st period was pure hopium. Thomas channeled his Hasek all series.

I'm a freak with big feet for my body. Pro-tip to all you kids out there, alcohol and coffee do stunt your growth. Don't start drinking them as early as I did. Size 9 skates for me, but I figure we must be roughly similar height.

Yes, size 9s are too tight for me. It's hell to f***ing skate in, but it honestly helps me keep my feet moving and being off the ice. But taking the boot off, holy shit....it bad.
Did you start drinking before pubity?
