GDT: The Four Nations Tournament Thread

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. They want to position the WC as an "off year" Olympics basically, so I imagine they'll keep similar scheduling.
 
Crosby is just special He just comes through in the clutch. No other current player gives you that feeling. It's crazy. Him and Mario are the 2 best players for me since I really started following. Lucky Pittsburgh.

Yeah, we might see something similar to Miami Heat, where star players just decided they wanna be on an all star roster 82 games of the season.

Crosby no look passing to Mack like that must’ve felt niiiiice.

The only thing I’ve got for Canucks going here is Crosby coming to the rink of the Golden Goal, a challenge to bring a Canadian city its first cup, and maybe the Rutherford connection. But gotta think every shift he plays with Mack makes the hope slimmer.
 
Disappointing performance from EP40 last night - kept a close eye on him but just seemed like a non factor.

Tried to dangle through the Canadian team and turned the puck over. Had a great chance in OT and missed the net

Disappointing, again but not surprised
 
I am not sure what people were expecting from EP40. Regardless of why you think he's been bad, you don't go from being bad for a full calendar year to being good in a tournament where you are playing against even better players. Pete's struggles were never going to evaporate overnight, and like his last big slump a few years ago, it will take him months to play himself back into the player he can be.

With that said, back in November or so I did think we were going to start to see Petey get out of this skid by around now. I mean, we are five months into the season, so its starting to get to the point where his off season just isn't very relevant.

Missed the game, but that is what I have read that he can still elevate his game. Too bad he decided to remain in Pitt for the remainder of his career, but that's his call.

The difference between EP40 and Marner were on display last night. Marner hits that shot in OT while EP40 misses.

We need EP40 to get back to the spot where we can rely on him hitting that shot consistently. It's not impossible (and we need it to happen).

Safe to say this gimmicky tournament is already a resounding success.
The nhl rarely gets a W, but the atmosphere and the first game going to OT, oldest guy in the tournament is still clearly the best, sold out, teams trying reasonably hard, not bad at all.

Significantly better than the asg that doesn't need to return, and way better than the dumb nba cup in season stupidness.

It is the only measuring stick to use. Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing. Participation medals just don't cut it. The franchise has been so mediocre in it's history it even has a banner of Stan Smyl in the rafters. I loved the Steamer but his name in the rafters? Lol.

You know why the Summit Series was salvaged? The god awful experiences the teams had in Montreal and Vancouver. The fans were actually supporting the Soviets. Maybe they played nice hockey, but I'm no f***ing commie. Without Espo's dressing down of all Canadians, I truly don't believe we win that series. That and slashing Kharlamov.

Hockey is brutal, refs won't catch everything.

So in your words the best team in the NHL that season, and probably in a decades time by pts, and pretty much every other measuring stick, wasn’t special?

They lost a seven game series after being devastating by injuries…

To win a cup you don’t just need to be good, you have to be very lucky. We were only 1 of those things.

One game was the difference. One game dude. You can’t live life jaded like that based on what basically amounts to a coin flip.

Tell me that team wanted it less than Boston. Tell me that lie, and say it with a straight face.

If you can’t, you already know the truth. If you can, I’m so sorry for you dude.
