GDT: The Four Nations Tournament Thread

im only 5'7 but with weight added lol. i dont drink or smoke. drink is like occasionally with friends and parties but not a drinker at all.

Good man. I'm not much bigger than you, for what it's worth. Hell, when I stood next to Juice back when I was a kid, he only had a couple inches on me then. Maybe I've grown a half-inch since.

Juice really isn't 6'1". If he is, my aunt has balls. Not a guy I'd want to meet in a dark alley, though. Isn't really a dig, more just admiration. His height has GOT to start with a 5. I'd bet a lot of money on it.

Spam After Hours about this. They just may indulge.

Forsberg seems like a mildly better Boeser, but Kempe, he's the real deal. A tuff mofo too, remember that fight vs JT, he certainly didn't win, but took the hits like a champ and stayed in it for the eventual takedown. Always impressive when we play LA.

Kempe does seem to be pop every time I watch him lately. Probably one of the more underrated players in the league over the past couple years.

As for Pettersson, more of the same unfortunately. Perhaps the Leafs game was another false turning point.

Kempe is great and I would love him in Vancouver, not sure he ever leaves LA though. He's a UFA after next season and he'll be 30 when the new contract kicks in. Also he's probably looking to cash in on this next deal, as he has been pretty underpaid his whole career.

Don't see him leaving LA unless he really wants to prioritize winning.

LA can afford to pay him on a deal that may be too long for many other teams. He'll be a key leader for them when Kopitar and Doughty move on so they probably won't mind overpaying him in his last few years.

I wonder where all the keyboard warriors are that said the tournament is a joke and its trash and a gimmick. Meanwhile the people who actually are athletes and competitive seem to be dialed in.

Sure. I just don't understand why. It's literally the all-star game with different jerseys.

It's a tryout for the World Cup and Olympics.

I remember FIFA used to run the Confederations Cup which was a warmup tournament before a World Cup. The tournament featured 8 teams. It was honestly a nothing tournament which drew little fanfare because the players and national managers treated it as a exhibition tour.

The NHL had the blueprints of a prestigious tournament with the World Cup of Hockey but they absolutely failed to capitalize off it after 1996 and 2004. We wouldn't see it again until 2016 at which point the whole thing seemed very gimmicky. The NHL needs to commit to running something during regular intervals and also need to move to a standard IIHF format if they want to be taken seriously.

This tournament is for shits and giggles though. It's fun in the moment and draws in $$$ but there's no prestige and no one will really remember it in a few years.

Commit to the Olympics and leave it at that. Don't need these tournaments every two years any more than we need multiple outdoor games every season. Bah.
