GDT: The Four Nations Tournament Thread

Pretty much agree. D looks fantastic but it feels like Sweden whiffed on all the winger combos besides Rakell and Raymond.

Zibanejad might be the worst C on the team, while Forsberg and Nylander are puck hogs trying to drive the puck through a crowd. Petey needs the puck in transition with guys who will either crash and bang or at least skate into open space.

Sweden makes better bandy players than hockey players.

You don't know how tendonitis operates and I'm somehow getting secondhand embarrassment from your comments about it/Petey.
Tbh it’s more directed to the people who make excuses for everything he does.

If he scores a hat trick tonight they would say he was fine and it was the dynamic in the locker room and environment

But when he plays poorly it’s the injury. I believe if he was that injured he would/should/could be sitting.

It’s essentially a never ending excuse the posters here use to justify his piss poor play

Man, Crosby is such a special player. One of the most talented players ever, but also has one of the greatest work rates and passion for the game you'll ever see. Looks so good still at 37.

Would give up every prospect and pick we have to get Crosby on the Canucks for the next two years.

Yeah I would empty the cupboards for him.........he could get us a cup.....

I'd just trade Pete tbh if we were to maximize Quinn's window. Use those picks/prospects to build the right team around Sid/Quinn.

Yeah, Kesler and Burrows got a ton of shit for their playoff play, but that's because of injuries. They stopped the excuses after 2009 after some...less than stellar performances.

They to their credit gave up their bodies for blue and green. You could tell they were playing injured, poor Kesler really ripped his body up.

Have some compassion, man. These guys are just human. Sometimes you get their A game, sometimes their C game. And some guys' C games are better than others C games. Petey is one of those players, I have faith in that based on the games against Toronto.

The Maple Leafs' C games consist of giving up completely.

Sid is a loyal. He's never been a mercenary. He'll only leave for us, I'd imagine. But I think he retires in Pittsburgh. I had this dream when I was 12 that he lead us to a Cup, but I could have had that manifested into the 2010 Gold Medal.

I agree with everything you’re saying.

My position is very simple: when you’re paid to be one of the best players in the NHL you have to play like that more often than not.

With this high of a salary compassion is very limited. Excuses don’t last long. The salary comes with high expectations

We have not had that in a calendar year. It is simply unacceptable and if this is who he will be for parts of his contract then we simply cannot afford that effort level and need to move him and wish him the best.

I don’t know, how many countries can actually compete at the highest level of any sport? Even the World Cup, while many countries earn bids, how many are actually contenders? There is also definitely some small population countries there that can compete.
You're right about the population imbalances, but there are a hell of a lot more vying for the title in soccer, I can say that confidently. I think the FIFA top 10 all have realistic to semi-realistic title aspirations at the outset of each tournament. The international hockey scene is probably more comparable to another regionally divided one like baseball.

But don't get me wrong -- countries are always a terrible way to divide up populations if we're interested in good sport. From a competition standpoint, it's pretty dumb that Canada's measure of success is "scoring a goal" in the same tournament where Brazil is disappointed if they don't win the whole thing.

I know it's unacceptable. He's been torn up enough by media hit pieces that are distracting him and making him second-guess himself. I don't want him to second-guess himself, he has shown he is perfectly capable of thinking his own game. He just needs to manage his life a bit better.

Remember the fans helped drive Pavel Bure out of town just as much as the regime did. I heard him called shit like floater when I was a kid, and the more "Lost Shifts" I see, the more I see how untrue that all was.

At what point do just say is it really worth it when you are essentially begging to sell low? Do me a favour when you decide to put your house on the market lol. Like, being a hard-ass tough love guy doesn't go as far as it used to. I love that my parents did that for me, but this life has become far too crazy to teach people that way and expect to attract friends consistently.

Binnington horrible goal classic lol
