To Houston: 2025 3rd (Miami's), 2025 7th, 2026 2nd, 2026 4th

To Washington: Tunsil, 2025 4th.

So net, we gave them a 2nd, a higher 3rd, a 4th and 7th for the player plus a 4th. They often say a pick next year is worth a round higher pick this year, so if these were all 2025 picks it could be looked at like two 3rds, a 5th and a 7th. Its not cheap to land an all pro LT, but he's also 30 and the question is how long can he sustain that level of play?
Trent is 36 and still pro bowler. So I would hope all of JDs rookie contract.

That seems like a lot.

$21 mil cap hit, out year after this year.

He’s 31, this is very shrewd by Houston. They give up what would have been one year of him before they traded, cut or renegotiated his deal for those picks and reclaim a ton of cap space.
They won’t let him go, I’d hope. It’s not a 1yr signing.

The dominant LT has been a major hole since Trent left.

And now Coleman can slide to the right wide. Cut Wylie (10m saved), and we have

Tunsil - Allegrehti - BadAss - Coleman/UFA/Draft — Coleman/UFA/Draft.

So 4 of 5 starters are now locked up. Shame Cosmi is out. That would be a sweet line, with him in and Coleman at RT

One side of it for them might be shrewd, but their O-line was horrendous last year, Tunsil was the only solid piece and a marquee player, and just like us they're tying to make the most of a young QB's cost-controlled years. There's zero chance they can rebuild their O-line after this. They'll cobble something together, but Stroud's in for some shit in 2025.

We gave up picks we can weather for a top LT that's never had a serious injury -- the one lengthy injury he had was a thumb. We use the year to evaluate how much he has in the tank and proceed accordingly. Knock wood, but all signs currently indicate that this guy is in the type of shape that can last, making it worth the 2nd. Everything else is trivia.

I was just commenting on the contract status, not suggesting it was for 1 year. He’s got $42 mil left over 2 years.

Love the trade even though I wasn’t a fan of moving picks for vets. LT is the second most important position in the sport. We have to protect JD. Now it’s trade down szn at the draft. We need more ammo badly.

As an example, I would much rather have Tunsil for a second and a 4th than Garrett for two 1sts.

Makes me wonder what they know…..

Could see Coleman at LG, and Allegretti at RG (until Cosmi comes back). That way Coleman could stay at LG. Might have to live w Wylie one more year - but who knows!

Also, in a “down year”, PFF had Tunsil at 4th (among T’s) in pass block grade.

I think, as would everyone. That would have been never been the final price for MG though. That was scare tactic pricing.

Maybe. Or maybe not. We did let Trent go bc Stupid FO. Texans aren’t exactly known for being savants
Right so is there some beef privately? He wants an extension now?

Have to think that AP would not have dealt the picks for a damaged product or for a guy who isn't happy with his deal. If he was demanding a new deal, AP should know this because the trade would likely have to be done in conjunction with his agent. Its super bad business to try to slip secret problems through the trade window, so if there's a desire for a new deal, have to think AP knows this and is willing to work towards it.

He played all 17 games last year so its hard to believe health is a reason here.

Makes me wonder what they know…..

Like what? That he might have a shitty personality? Everything else is accounted for.

The part of the trade that's contingent on medical is immediate access to those records, and the guy has to be in pretty remarkable condition to have played as consistently as he has, the busted thumb year notwithstanding. These dudes get full imaging every time they get a hangnail, and they have access to all of it.

He can't have a secret criminal record or anything like that unless it's juvenile, so that's not a thing.

The draft thing with the weed and gas mask? We don't care about weed if a guy plays like he does, and football players being knuckleheads is par for the course.

So what COULD they know that has you concerned?

Yes, but you can’t protect your young QB with picks and cap space. All they get to help their team this year is swapping a 4th for a 3rd and cap space.

With our unexpectedly good season last year, it was almost impossible to draft a top of the line left tackle

They almost are always gone in the top eight picks or so

This is a huge pick up

Even if he busts it was worth the gamble
