OT: The Football Team formerly known as Redskins - Super Bowl 2025 or bust! [2025-26 Offseason Extravaganza Edition]

This is one of the rare years I'm glad out FO is doing the drafting and not me (and by "rare" I mean the first time in the last 25 or so.)

With our early picks, I could see us going 5 or 6 different positions, and I'd be happy with any of them. As many have said, there are a ton of EDGEs in this draft, and there'll definitely be one worth taking at 29. But maybe Egbuka falls down there, which would also be a good pick. There are also 1 or 2 run-stuffing DTs (desperate need) who might be available there. And a couple of big, fast CBs w/ man-cover chops, too. And while it seems unlikely, it's not outside the realm of possibility that a worthwhile OT will slide down there.

That's not even counting the highly improbable but not impossible scenario that a unicorn like Jeanty or Warren falls.

Unlike our previous FOs since the end of the Casserly era, I have real faith that our guys will bring in good players that will help us immediately with our top picks, and long term, either as eventual starters or depth pieces, in the medium to longer term.

That said, a big caveat: every mock draft anybody does and any simulator anybody uses will be very, very different between now and the actual draft. We'll look back at mocks we've seen or done in Jan/Feb later and go "Man, M. Green was NEVER going to be available at 29, and why did I ever think Ersery would be a value at 61?" (Names and slots made up for effect.)

I recently went back to the beginning of the previous thread and looked at some of the mocks I and others were posting where we were trading down to 8 or even 11, taking Daniels and making serious hay with extra picks. Now we know Daniels was never going to make it past 3. Some of that was because some undervaluation of Daniels on this board, but most of it was because teams hadn't had the time to go through all his college game film and see what ultimately became very evident. Same can be said for Penix and Nix -- Nobody had all 6 QBs gone in the top 12 picks last Feb or Mar -- including the people who get paid to do this. And as those QBs rose, other players fell.

This year it probably won't be QBs who rise en masse, but maybe the EDGE run with start earlier and last longer, or maybe CBs will jump because of scarcity causing some DEs to fall. Who knows? But a TON is going to change, between combine, pro days and just scouts having more time to go deep on guys.

Best time of the year, baby!!!

NYG at 3 Im hoping
On paper (ignoring the draft class for a moment), you could see as many as 6 QBs taken in the top 10 (TEN, CLE, NYG, LV, NYJ, NO). It will be interesting to see how the push/pull goes with so many teams needing QBs but so few actual first round talents. There are some really interesting upside plays for days 2/3, but I wonder if those get pushed up due to the dearth of talent. Jaxson Dart, Quinn Ewers, Will Howard, and Jalen Milroe are some names that feel like they could get pushed up. But will they get pushed into the first round or will NFL teams show patience?

New England is almost certainly rooting for the top 3 to all go QBs so that they get their choice of Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter.

FWIW, Dane Brugler's latest big board only has first round grades on Ward (15) and Sanders (25). He ranks Dart 57, Shough (59), Milroe (61), and Howard (84). He does not rank Ewers.

As recently as 2022 the league as a whole showed restraint on QBs, with only Pickett going in the 1st round. Wisely, it turns out, as none of the QBs drafted -- anywhere -- was a primary starter even 2 years later. The ones that ever did start -- Howell, Pickett, Ridder -- didn't last long as starters.

Ward and Sanders will almost certainly go in the 1st, and maybe someone will reach for Dart. But I'd be surprised if more than 3 go and shocked if more than 4 do.

As I recall, part of the reason the QBs were all gone before #13 last year is because the league knew that this year's QB class was going to be so weak. Any team passing on a potential starter anywhere on the field in the 1st in favor of taking a guys who's a project at best is practicing bad football.

Someone could sign him as a “maybe” Tom Brady type hope. I mean, Achilles is no joke. So I can get the rust.

BUT — he’s a clown of a person, doesn’t seem committed to being a football player anymore, and could easily ruin a locker room.

I mean *maybe* a team like the Niners tries it? If they don’t want to pay/believe in Purdy?

Who else?
-Raiders are dumb enough.
-I could see the Viking if Darnold leaves and JJMcC isn’t ready?
-Rams….if Stafford somehow leaves?
-Seahawks for cheap if they don’t want a 45m Geno Smith?
-Dolphins if somehow they move on from Tua?
-Steelers? Fields and Wilson both stink
-Colts? Richardson isn’t the guy?

Definitely the Jets (oh wait, we did that already).

I don’t see much of a path for Mr Rodgers

Neeners have recently stated they're committed to Purdy so that's not happening. AR is not going to be anyone's backup, either.

-Raiders could happen. That would be very Raidery.
-I think MIN are in the same boat as SF.
-Don't see Stafford bolting with 2yrs left but you never know? Is there a rumor about this?
-SEA is a possibility. Smith is going to break down as well. Kubiak was working for MIN while AR was in GB.
-Tua has kind of a shitty contract for MIA with 2yrs before an out clause but like 38M dead cap. Maybe?
-Steelers would be hilarious and on brand. I like it.
-No way the Colts take that plunge with the investment in Richardson, unless Irsay gets really drunk and starts making calls.

Carolina seems like a possible destination with Young still on a cheap contract and already used to being benched.

CLE might leap at him if they could clear space by trading Garrett which would top every other stupid move they've made in their history of epic stupid moves.

NYG? Saints? Titans?

I count maybe 7 or 8 possibilities and other than maybe the Steelers they all seem to stink.

I discounted the “shitty” teams (NYG, NO, TN, CLE) as why would he want to even play there? He can “go be in existential self” and leave football behind.

I’d assume he’d want to win.

Which leaves only the Steelers, and or the Vikings/Rams, depending (there was some ESPN or Athletic talk — I cannot remember which — that said they could part ways).

Steelers is a name I’m seeing talked about a lot…

I just can't see Rodgers and Tomlin co-existing. I mean, I'd pay good American money to watch the attempt, but I can't see that organization signing up for that kind of psychosis.

Agree with the logic of AR not wanting to go to any of the objectively bad teams.

But I also can't see why a team with a chance of accomplishing anything (LAR, MIN) would opt in to the dick cancer, which at this stage is all Rodgers is.

PS — being in the bosom of Niner nation — there are a lot of fans that don’t think Purdy is worth the coin (it’s almost Kirk 2.0!), and want the team to move on and sign AARod to a cheaper “let’s win it all deal” and keep the rest of the band together.

I am not saying I think it’s smart. Just what a lot of the local talking heads are saying (and Rodgers was a Cal Alum, so it’s “bringing him home”.

Now Rodgers and Berkeley make a lot more sense

I get this — but…. If one is in “NFL Circles”, and know that Rodgers can be a goats penis, well…… I give you Woody Johnson and the Jets.

I don’t which is more dysfunctional? Rodgers or the entire Jets org?

If any coach in the league can handle Rodgers' fruity bullshit it's Tomlin.

And they did bring in Russ when he was having coach troubles and looked cooked.

As for him going to bad teams, the Jets weren't all that stacked when he arrived, either. They were a 7 win team.

Well it was reported that the Jets told AR no more appearances on the Pat McAfee show if he was to return.

Tomlin runs a tight show. He might be one of the few who could make it work IMO.

Me, I’d rather see him fade off into oblivion.
