Stop being so fancy with your poutine guys, nobody cares really, its just like a burger or a sub, you can do whatever you want with it.

Just stay away from the vile bullshit that is belle province.

Costco and Benny have great frozen fries poutines
Ma poule mouillée has Sao Jorge cheese and portuguese chicken and chorizo, Cantine emilia has chorizo and chicken with a thick red sauce

Thats just a few examples of great fkn poutines in Montreal (et les environs :) ) that diverge from the plain old (just as good) poutine style.

I've been working in kitchens for fifteen years now and this thread is giving me big fedora "akschually" wearing vibes. Just enjoy your stuff guys, if it tastes good, its good.

It mostly depends on the audience. I really, really love a poutine made around here that's basically a regular poutine that also contains smoked chicken in a jerk white sauce. But it also has real curds, not soft fries and a brown sauce that's actually brown. Nothing wrong with poutines that diverge from the norm.

The whole thing started with someone who had what appeared to be bad poutine. ... And the culprits are often the same.

Belle province and Ashton can ruin a poutine experience for anyone. Vile stuff. Disgusting. Nasty.

I'd much rather have some kind of experience in fusion that doesn't really ressemble a poutine but actually tastes great rather than a poutine from these guys. Better yet, i'd rather just starve.

Portuguese poutine in Montréal is one of the best kept secret IMO.

MPM, Cantine Emilia, Viuana, Campo, Romados, Santos...

Another favorite is smoked meat poutine but I can't find anything that beats the old Chenoys (FROZEN FRIES) (Nickels has a good frozen fries+Smoked meat one)

f*** I want a poutine right now

Always considered Belle Pro to be the bare minimum acceptable (and I haven't had one since maybe 20 years). Like, Burger King is better. I've had like one Ashton and it was better than Belle Pro but barely.

Would you happen to know if Petit Québec is just Belle Pro with another branding?

Poutine was invented in the 1950s.

La Banquise started serving poutine in the 1970s and even Burger King started offering it in the 1980s.

Poutine popularity boost outside Quebec was more in the late 1990s/early 2000s.
I shall use this in an upcoming pub quiz night,it's obscure enough that most probably won't know:thumbu:

That might have been the trinity in the 70s. 😅

Top 3 worst poutines in QC is ashton, Harveys and Belle pro hands down.

Petit québec and Belle pro are two different for what I know, then again, what do I know when it comes to casse-croutes lmao

Petit quebec is decent though

I mean I did prefer Petit Québec as well, but I haven't been to any of these places in like well over 10 years if not 15. If not 20.

I’ve wanting to try this place — it’s been around forever: Accueil - Chez Ma Tante Patates Frites Restaurant Montréal
Checked the link it spawned a few questions, why haven't you as it been around so long and furthermore, how far will one go for specific food or restaurants? Saw where it was located, not exactly the best and nicest hood and not convenient depending where one hails from.
I'll go a few hours for a specific place, even overnight it on occasion, heck even flew a few times to get that ''fix''

What's the saying? when in Rome?
A cousin drinks exclusivity this product and some are better than others but with such a variety you're sure to find one to your liking,I did!.For those that like experimenting with beers, worthwhile tasting imo.

Will occasionally go truffle''hunting'' yet not sure how best to incorporate them, turns out thye be fine all on their own, maybe wash it down with lager though.

I guess I'm not enough of a beer aficionado as I find IPAs so nasty. When I accidentally tried IPAs over 10 years ago thinking it was an actual "pale ale" I almost threw up. I drank them all but I didn't enjoy them. I was at a supermarket in the US with my wife and figured I'd pick up some random beers for the hotel. I thought I was getting "pale ale". Oh man, have sampled a few since and still don't care for them.

Yup! not a fan either. Prefer to stick with my go to especially if consuming a massive amount:nod:

I like Messorem. I really do.
... But I've never been that anamored with their IPAs. It's good to drink if you're on the premises obviously, but I'm definitely not hunting for their stuff. Other than the bottled releases.

At this point I can't tell where is the best IPA in Montreal. I also haven't drink any IPA from Montreal in a while. And the one that came to mind isn't even from Montreal but Kahanwake.

Messorem rules the beer world in MTL right now.

What type of IPA ?

I loooooove the New wave milkshake IPA from Jukebox

Benelux has a great IPA, the cuda, its a WCipa though.

Not montreal, but
Auval makes two excellent IPAs
Boréales IPA du Nord-est is always excellent.

Beers from Kahanwake?! Where do you buy this? There? Do you the name of the brewery? Thanks!

Kahnawake Brewing. I don't think it can be sold out of the reserve. The brewery is located just off the bridge, so if you're in, I dunno, Lasalle and have a car, it's probably the quickest one to get to other than possibly 4 Origines.

The New Wave is actually still great. I think it was the first commercialised (or sold elsewhere than on premises) Milkshake IPA and is probably, only second to the Los Tabarnacos (which means, it's the best regular MS IPA).

Cooked a beautiful wild mushrooms risotto with shredded duck confit for my parents.
It was soooo tasty!
