The Florida Panthers have reconnoitered your village and have decided to strategically retreat.

Oh great, this tired narrative again.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Florida has taken every eastern team they've faced out behind the woodshed the last 2 playoffs. Boston was the only one to give them any resistance.

You know who's given them trouble? Vegas, and the shitty ass Oilers. Not a good look for the east
The likely don't care who they play in round 1, which makes it laughable that they are losing (or winning) on purpose to face team X instead of team Y. They'll play who they play and likely feel themselves favourites no matter what given past performances.

I think there is a fine line between "Resting up and getting healthy for the playoffs" and losing some mojo. They have 1 regulation win in something like 13 games. Kind of feels like you need some aspect of momentum and mojo heading into the playoffs, even if it's just a couple good games to close out the year. Obviously health is a priority as they'll need those guys firing, but at some point they need to win some games, regardless of where they finish in the standings.

With all that said, I'm not worried about them because everyone here knows they can play amazing hockey, but this skid is definitely a bit beyond the usual, ah who cares lets get to playoffs.
pretty much how i feel. who even knows what the panthers do

As a Tampa fan thinking that Florida's recent play is any way indicative of what'll we see in the post-season is purely wishful thinking.

Florida management probably doesn't see a clear route to get 1st in the division and would rather just rest their horses then worry about seeding which makes a lot of sense.

For those wondering, here's the current lineup:

Verhaeghe-Rodrigues-Puljujarvi
Luostarinen-Lundell-Marchand
Boqvist-Asplund-Samoskevich
Greer-Nosek-Gadjovich

Mikkola-Jones
Kiersted-Schmidt
Megma-Balinskis

Am I wrong in assuming that they actually needed guys on the shelf in order to have the cap room to fit in their deadline acquisitions?

The western conference teams play with a little more jam. Vegas just pounded us into the dirt and we were injured. That Vegas team was gross, that was just their year and they weren’t going to accept no.

Panthers 100% going all in for Toronto in the 1st round.

Look at that line-up against Detroit, laughable

Think they feel Toronto is the easier matchup than Tampa.
Ottawa could give Toronto a good go as well.
Seems no GM and team are scared of the Leafs and rightfully so.

The roster is pretty banged up. They're playing a tank lineup currently. Maybe they're looking to go down to a wildcard spot in order to swap opponents.

They’re trying to avoid Tampa and play Toronto in Round 1. Sens need to start losing because we don’t want Tampa.

It's a dumb strategy because nobody clinched any seeding yet. Toronto could still lose the division lead. So go ahead, tank. I thought they were SC champs? Why are they scared of Tampa?

Yup, they've got 3-4 teams I see as having legit cup potential. The east has 2, Florida and Tampa. And going back the last 5 years, the state of Florida has made the east look way better than it really is. Because Carolina, NYR, and Toronto? (Or whoever you want to label as the best teams during that span) have all been pretenders to everyone except the homers.

Wonder if the Seth Jones apologists still think the trade was a good one.

Truth is, he's a 3rd pairing defenseman yet he's given minutes as if he was a #1. Hard to overcome that.

How easy do you think it is for injured players to come back for the POs and turn on the intensity? There is a value in letting your players rest and heal as much as possible before the POs although I question how fair it is to TDL players who haven’t really had a consistent opportunity to work with their linemates.

Depends if they were actually injured up until the end of the season or not

Florida has played the most games of anyone the last 2 seasons and had the most players at the 4 nations. They are load managing as best they can. Maybe you’re right and they can’t turn it on but it’s probably better than running them into the ground. I think most Florida fans can accept if this is the year they burn out in the playoffs. They’re human.

I’m an Avs fan and my team has also got injuries galore. So the question was actually just about the players’ ability to ramp up their game.

You know how demanding it is to win the SC. After the Avs won, I questioned if they would have the same drive and passion necessary to win it again the following season. You bring up a good point about the number of games which the Panthers have played the last couple of seasons.

The POs will be interesting to watch.

What happened to Ekblad?

A huge issue is Seth Jones was acquired to replace Ekblad but looks like he might replace someone in the press box. You could have asked any Hawks fan why this was a terrible idea. I don't understand what the Panthers were thinking.
