Post-Series Talk: The Florida Panthers defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 (mod warning in OP)

Making these guys talk to the Toronto media after an embarrassing performance like that is pure torture for those players lol. You can tell how much it bothers them having to answer to the media, I honestly think it's a big reason they've turned into the players they are.
Reilly actually had a pretty good interview FWIW

I'm hoping Knies will be signed long term, but I'm also hoping it won't take 8 million or more to get him signed. Really praying that it will be in the 7 million region at most for a long term contract.
Knies play reminds me of another power forward, Brady Tkachuk. A contract similar to his (8x8) sounds about right.

It’s injuries!
It’s the goalie!
It’s the D!
It’s the depth!
It’s the refs!
It’s the fans!
It’s the media!

You know what? It’s Marner, Mathew’s, and Nylander being afraid to compete when the games get tough, both mentally and physically. The Leafs lose for one reason only. These three players are soft.

More like facts don't care about your anti leafs bias.

Here's one more for you.

Leafs are 1 of only 3 teams to take Panthers to 7 games in the past few years. One was the greatest regular season team in Bruins history, and the other was inches away from a Cup win.

Like it or not, Leafs are an excellent team and on the cusp of being cup contenders. Arguably already there if the Canes end up losing quickly to the Panthers in the ECF.
Playing the "We lost to the eventual champions" grasping at straws argument? You just admitted defeat.

And on the cusp of being Cup contenders? Nine years of choking now precedes being a Cup contende?

What a very odd perspective

I said it somewhere else, but out of all the core players on the team, Rielly is the only good speaker who talks naturally like a normal guy. The rest are robots giving garbage answers like they memorized queue cards what to say to the press.

If you missed the Sportsnet guys at second intermission or post game (I forget), King Homer Lover Kevin Bieksa had the gall to say "Leafs are only a few tweaks away from winning the cup".

It was a quick fly by statement and then the rest of the panelists moved on fast. Probably because Ron McLean, Hrudey and whomever else was sitting there didnt want to get into that stupidity debate.

Several times during the series, I saw the puck go into the corner or off to the side wall, and I saw Nylander start skating towards the puck but then stop skating once he realized that he was going to have to battle Ekblad or Jones for the loose puck.

Some of these times were even when the puck was in Toronto's end, and Nylander's refusal to battle for a loose puck against bigger defensemen caused Toronto to get caved in to their own zone.

You don't go too far in the playoffs when you have your star players who play 20 minutes a game doing stuff like this.

And then Nylander screams at his teammates to get him the puck. He’s too good to get his nose dirty and get the puck for himself or to free it up by taking contact so a teammate can get it. Teammates must hate how he plays. Coaches definitely would hate it.

He does stuff like this fairly regularly

You can see all the psychological trauma gradually accumulating over the years, until it eventually leaves them completely broken by the end.
I gotta say, it's been fun seeing these guys crash out in the playoffs every year for the last decade, but I do feel bad for them as humans. It has to hurt to go through that failure every year and let down the fans again and again.

I hope Marner joins a contender and wins a cup, and I hope Matthews does too when his contract is up. But Marner especially, the guy was a prodigy as a kid with an abusive father, drafted by his hometown team, treated like a god, only to have it all come crashing down where the fans booed him every time he touches the puck. The guy deserves a break.

Man that 4-1 goal was a franchise-killer. They had just finally got the building roaring to life, seemed like they could mount a comeback and then they gave up a floater from the blueline less than a minute later. You just knew it was over.

You're a better human than I. Just by playing for the Leafs they are all tainted in my eyes and so I can never feel bad for them or hope better things for them. Could also be that Marner and Tavsres are Toronto boys and I just don't like the city and Matthews is too Karlsson like in his pursuit of fashion. I'm too old school for that shit

So, i just learned about this video today. Joe thornton has to be the biggest loser in nhl history and unironically helped contaminate leafs stars' mentalities. Zero urgency and just straight up goes "we're fine we're in 1st place for a reason" after keefe talks about how they're not doing things necessary to score goals in the playoffs like getting rebounds lol. Signing him in 2020 was one of those hidden, franchise ruining moves that you don't even notice. This is why you don't just pick up players as a "veteran presence". They're more experienced but you can't always tell if they're offering good or bad experience/approach/advice.

Sounds more like a "No need to panic, we got this" kind of response

Are you saying Joe Thornton is the issue? Seriously?

No, the issue is obviously Matthews/Marner's inability to show up in games 5-7, but Joe Thornton very likely added to the problem when he offered them his "leadership and experience" and is the biggest choker in NHL history himself.

Not likely. Unless Stolarz can score. Woll was not the cause of either of the blowout losses where the Leafs scored one goal.

The thing with Stolarz is the team always seemed to play more confidently with him in the net compared to Woll or other backups

I still don’t think those blowouts happen.
