Post-Series Talk: The Florida Panthers defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 (mod warning in OP)

I only came in here to say there were multiple plays yesterday where Marchand looks like he doesn't have the angle on the puck and then he gets REALLY low and squirts by, another time he was getting lined up to get smoked and he got low and avoided the check.

Not much to say other than that it is impressive and sometimes the tall lugs drafted high aren't always the best draft picks. If I were a smaller sized player I would 100% mimic my game (not necessarily antics) around Marchand's skating ability.

To be honest thats why Datsyuk was remarkable

It's crazy that Paul Marice started as the Leafs coach back in the day.
Yeah I hear that before he "started" in Toronto he coached in some backwater that doesn't matter. Some god-awful hockey wasteland with a team he took to the Stanley Cup Final. Then after that he "started" in Toronto, thank God, coaching the magnificent Leafs on the road to absolutely NOWHERE.

Since 2004 : Series wins

Buffalo : 4
Toronto : 2

Buffalo's last playoff appearance : 2010-2011 season
That was nicely delivered.

I’d like to tell you I didn’t laugh out loud when I read that, but I really can’t. I’m trying so hard to be a good human here…… I really really am.

So, I’m just gonna leave it that.

It’s time for Shanahan to update his resume.

He’s had more than enough time to get it right. He’s too inept or cowardly to do what it takes to make a winner.
I was shocked to leaen he's been Keaf president since 2014. My mind has melded time so much that I was thinking it's been 5 years lol

Yep, hey ho, Shanny the Not Lanny has got go. I have my biases otherwise anyway, can't respect a man who cheats on with and steals a teammates wife.

Marchand is also smart enough to just whip the puck on net and hope something good comes from it. Leafs dont do that as they prefer fancy plays.

Lundells rebound goal was from Marchand throwing it on net. And Marchand did the same thing again on Listoranien's (sp) deflection goal.

Babcock has got to be the most overrated coach of all time...

Tortorella exists.

For all his issues, Babcock identified what the problem was for the Leafs and was trying to address it. But got fired for not winning enough regular season games. And then, you know the rest...

Babcock's solution to everything was to play like a 4th liner.

He has coached some ridiculously good teams because they were built well, that is why he is even known.

Again, I think you're confusing Babcock with Tortorella.

Marchand basically said “this was the biggest game of your life but it was just another Sunday for me”
I miss Marchy………….. outside of the unreal hockey he played for us, he was such a fun ride in Boston. Even when shit was going just bonkers and over the edge even that was just amazing to watch. He’s was always pretty candid and blunt with us in Boston as well.

Love him or hate him, if he’s not a good one to create the “personality” for the League I don’t know who is.

If he’s Villain to you, fair play. But you do have to kind of admit that guy is funny and also calls it like it is.

Imagine taking the Stanley cup champs to 7 games WITHOUT a fully healthy lineup and you have people wanting to blow things up .

Here's the ACTUAL facts

Injured Matthews
1 goal 3 assists in 7 games

Marner
1 goal 4 assists in 7 games.

Nylander
3 goals, 3 assists in 7 games.

Barkov
5 points in 7 games but 2 were phantom secondary assists in a blowout game, and his only 2 goals were in Panthers losses.

Reinhart
2 goals, 3 assists in 7 games. But one of those goals were in a game that was already finished.

Tkachuk
4 assists in 7 games.

Looks to me like the Leafs stars outplayed the Panthers stars. Especially since the Panthers had more help from their depth players than the core four did. And ofc, Panthers best goalie vs Leafs second best goalie..

Matthews and Marner are better than any skater on the Panthers.

Nylander played better than any of them this series.

Big "Got rispek in the handshake line" vibes

Also the Leafs record in the 3rd Round:

1978: 0-4 vs. MTL
1993: 3-4 vs. LAK (closest they've come since the expanded playoffs, 5 games away)
1994: 1-4 vs. VAN
1999: 1-4 vs. BUF
2002: 2-4 vs. CAR

Total: 7-20

So any team that has won the Cup or appeared in the finals more than once since the playoffs expanded beyond two rounds has more wins than the Leafs in the 3rd round and later -- total.

Matthews is always "injured", is he the next what could have been?
