Post-Series Talk: The Florida Panthers defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 (mod warning in OP)

So, Treliving? Dubas was gonna blow up the core and Shanahan and his man Tre wanted to keep them
Tre got hired I would think on the condition that he would go along with Shanahan to keep them. He wouldn't have got hired otherwise.

Shanahan has to go.....

The funniest thing in this thread is the fans of the other 27 teams who have been eliminated, trying to roast us lmao

Yeah we're disappointed we lost, but Sens/Habs fans having a party ? LOL
I roast any team that I want regardless of the team I cheer for...

I didn't build that f***ing team...

That last game was just pathetic for Toronto.

I used to get furious over displays like that (I was irate during the third period of Game Seven against BOS in 2018 and really pissed during the last games against CLB in 2020 and MTL in 2021), but I've gotten used to G7 losses from this team.

I remember telling a co-worker after the 2020 loss to Columbus that I didn't think a team with four guys making about $40 mil could win unless they were a lot more productive in the playoffs. I'm sure the team will go in a new direction now.

This Leafs team is talented but so flawed and so toxic. I've worked in toxic work environments, and it's not fun. You get the impression there's a lot of politicking with this group and possibly feuds between players and guys wanting to try to cover their own asses.

The team still can't handle adversity and can't string together a coherent game (Matthews admitted they weren't on the same page) when the stakes are high. They started off well against FLA, but obviously the Panthers were going to make their push back; they did and the Leafs couldn't really handle it. They did win three games (not many thought it would take FLA as long as it did to finish them off), but following up that awful G5 performance with a similar one in the next home game is disappointing and shows that changes are needed.

This team is almost more intriguing for all the drama and BS than for the on-ice product now.

Not sure why you single out Marner here. Matthews and Nylander were just as bad, if not worse.
As for Woll, it’s hard to win when your team scores one goal and the defensive game is brutal.
Because Marner played even worse than Matthews, who I can only assume is hurt. Nylander was still generating chances and this is his first no show in a playoff series in recent memory. Marners moping and entitlement drags the team down. He is just so f***ing fragile mentally, it's insane

Woll let in some absolutely deflating softies. Completely killed any opportunity for momentum. I like Woll but he was aweful and should have played Stolartz for several reasons- bigger, better and would have been an unexpected surprise for the Cats

I personally don’t buy that story about Dubas but if you wanna believe the MLSE spin that’s up to you
If a coach or GM wants another nhl job they will protect the crest of their club and the league. There is no chance Dubas would have said anything about why he was replaced, especially if it was a negative comment about his previous boss.

Nylander had zero points the last four games of that series. He totally disappeared to the outside when the game got tougher.

If you read between the lines of what he said Dubas was absolutely gonna try to get a deal done for Marner
What someone says and what someone intends to do are often completely different things. Particularly in the realm of corporate public relations.

Genuine question - where do Leaf fans want the team to go from here ? How much cap space do they have going into next season assuming Marner and Tavares do not come back.

Do you want to dip into the free agent market? If so who are you targeting?

Trade route ? And if so what assets can be leveraged for a trade?

Or is it full rebuild mode

There is no way Marner deserves a raise. Offer him $9m with no trade protection and let him go
Actually, Im hoping Amazon Prime does a documentary where they setup a camera at the negotiation table for when Marner and his agent go in and ask Treliving for Draisaitl money and Treliving either bursts out laughing at him or god forbid he actually caves and they do the deal.

And why wouldn't they be having a party? Both teams are on the way up and have apparently promising futures (time will tell but it's headed in the right direction).
Our time is soon coming. The Leafs' time is soon ending. :partytime:

It's going to be a retool. The D and goaltenders are already signed. The first priority will be to take care of the Knies contract and have that done before free agency. Also resign Lorentz cause he brought a lot to the bottom 6.

One guy i would put my money on the Leafs going after and getting signed as a UFA is Brandon Tanev. He would fit perfectly in the Berube system and get to play with his brother. As for how much Toronto dips into the free agency will depend on the money spent to resign players which is up in the air.

We will see where things go with the core group. Willy and Auston will be back but all other bets are off at this point. Better chance of JT returning over Marner by the looks of it.

If i was to trade someone it would be Rielly. He's been here through it all and I think needs to move on if Toronto is serious about a shake up. People always talk about the core 4 but it's always been a core 5 with Morgan through the last decade.

They have no first rounders for the next 3 years and have already traded a bunch of mid round picks as well. That precludes both a rebuild and any meaningful trade of futures for help now (unless they start dipping into 2028 and 2029 picks).

Seems like they will have to add through FA if they want to shake things up, and with Marner and JT off the books they will have a lot of $ to play with

Is there even a scenario where leafs management want Marner back? The series wasn’t even over and there was talk of a bad relationship and questions about where Marner ends up.
