Do the Rangers make money because of Glen Sather? Or do they make money because they are an 87 year old institution with a very loyal fanbase within one of the biggest cities of the world?

From his boss's perspective, I don't think it matters. The Rangers are making money hand over fist and Sather is in charge. Why change it?

Its one thing that the owner is lazy and complacent. Its another thing regarding thats the same way Sather has run the team. And its an even worse matter when that attitude permeates the entire organization. People talk so much about the players being hungry -- its just as important for management.

I really don't think Sather is lazy or complacent at all. I just don't think he's that great at building a team without a huge offensive force to build it around. I mean, look at the team he built around Jagr. Look at the team he built around Gretzky. Those are the only two times he's ever had that kind of caliber of a player to build around and both times he built great teams (the Rangers one obviously had a very limited window due to Jagr's age). I think he would probably have built an awesome team around Crosby. Part of that is his own fault, since he never seems to draft that player either.

I don't think Dolan is lazy or complacent either. I think he's just disinterested.

Neither are good for this organization.

The only aspect of life, right now, where these 2 guys aren't complacent or lazy are their pursuits to be perceived as some sort of big shot. Sather lucked into Gretzky, and Dolan lucked into a birth.

It's an old Chinese proverb. (meaning: the organization falls apart because the people running it are incompetent).

It's almost beautiful if you look at it in a certain way...
They're not fast, yet they're not big.
They're not skilled, yet they're not mean.
They've got one really big guy, but the guy next to him is reeeaaalllly small.
That really big, intimidating tough guy, might be the most disappointing fighter in the NHL.
They pay a ton of money to bring in top level talent, those guys end up being pretty much the worst players on the team.
It's a beautiful disaster that Sather has given us.

Our forwards aren't offensively gifted enough to consistently overmatch the other team's forwards.
But they're not defensively gifted enough to consistently overmatch their forwards either.

Our defense exhibits no compelling offensive threat,
And yet they're defense isn't particularly overwhelming, either.

What style of play combined with this roster would be expected to realistically beat teams like the Sharks, Blackhawks, Penguins, etc? Especially through something like a seven game playoff series? I wonder how it works out in Sather's head. What does he think he's doing? Does he believe he's assembled a Cup worthy team? WHY WON'T HE LET US IN?!?

The scariest part is I truly have no idea where the change in this team is going to come from, and I have little to no faith in Sather's ability to handle what might need to come next.
