Don't we have him for 8 more years? His contract is probably one of the best bang for buck in the league.

That's what you get for being loyal and taking a home town discount, stabbed in the back 6 mos later.

Same thing Homer did to JVR, signed him to 6 years 25 mil in 2011 and traded him a year later. Toronto got a good bang for their buck as well, he's had 48 goals (93 points) in 128 games as Leaf. He's a stud, he'll hit 40 as a Leaf . The Flyers are looking for an LW for the 1st line, they had one and threw him away.

Still baffled how people mock Carter. I'd be ****ing livid if I was traded 6 months after signing that deal. To Columbus of all places. Gross.

He was angry and the fact he stonewalled the BJ's for 3 days after the trade, not accepting their calls, etc, reflected that. Umberger (who played with him on the Phantoms and Flyers) was one of the contingent that had to drive to Sea Isle where Carter had his beach house to talk to him. He did cool down then but I think that being stabbed in the back like that really hurt. He only signed that LTC to stay in Philly ,giving them a discount.
Columbus was because Homer wanted Voracek in the worst way, it was just a matter of the BJ's finally agreeing on the 1st round pick. He was almost traded to Boston in 2010 when the Bruins were trying to trade Thomas and the Flyers being stung by Leighton's soft play in the 2010 finals, were hunting a goalie. But they couldn't agree on the rest of the package.
That would have been something Krejci, Carter and Bergeron down the middle.

I think Carter has really put himself in the driver's seat for the Conn Smythe with the way he's scoring and performing. If he continues like this and surpasses Kopitar's scoring. I think he will win the Conn Smythe, imo. I mean why not? He's one hell of a player and he's scoring many big goals for us when we need it. That's worthy of a Conn Smythe consideration, people.

What say you, my fellow Kings fans?

Can there ever be a Co-Con Smythe MVP winner? That be more appropriate as I think each and every Kings player has really upped their games! The whole team should all skate out and accept that Con Smythe trophy when presented to a King.

Carter's been an absolute beast in his time here. So glad to have a nice 1-2 punch down the middle. Now if only Richards would revert back to his old self, then we'd have an even deadlier triple centerman threat...

Great post. This is not the Carter that played in Philly, plain and simple. Carter always had productive regular seasons but was not a driving force in the playoffs and that's the most important time to be productive.

As someone who watched Carter his whole career (I'm a Flyers fan first and Kings fan second), I can say that the Carter in LA is a better and harder working player. And that's the kind of player you can rally behind.

I'm actually a Carter fan now after not liking him during his time in Philly (always loved Richards though). The Flyers are more than happy with getting Couturier and Voracek for him and he wouldn't be the player he is today if he hadn't been traded.
I don't know if he's working harder, but he's definitely more confident.

Oh, and he's learned a few more tricks - namely passing, and shot selection. Once upon a time, Carter's only shot in the bag was his wrist-shot. Then he learned the back-hand on a breakaway. Then he started to get a handle on one-timers (something you NEVER saw from him in year one or two.) It all helps to develop a more complex player, something more difficult to defend against, and it's working.

Chicago is in a tough matchup situation with Carter.

His line is eating Handzus' line alive, but Chicago dares not put Toews on him (or switch anybody else who is keeping Kopi/Gabs under control), for fear
the Kopi/Gaborik line will explode on them.

But meanwhile, Carter and the kids are blowing Chicago apart.

What does Chicago do now?
:sarcasm:

It's interesting to see the Blackhawks in such a vulnerable position.

But hey, Kings still need 2 wins against them, so I'm still holding my breath.

But if Carter & Co continues their streak, Chicago is dead.

I dare Chicago, in an attempt to stop the Carter unit, to take Toews off the Kopitar line.

I frikkin' dare 'em.

carter is an absolute beast in the playoffs. scores the big goals when needed. his right handed shot down the left side and wrists it. hes not a lazy persay. he sorta floats here and there but when he as the puck on his stick watch out. playing with the kids toffoli/pearson helps

good article about Carter playing at center.

"When [general manager Dean Lombardi] and I, during the [Olympic] break, went over a lot of video and talking about our team and not so much for this year but going forward," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said when asked about when Carter's move to the middle was consummated. "How it was going to set up? As a coach, always think, 'now, now now.' But just look at it differently, how the young guys, Tyler and Tanner are going to play here.

3 years later, he's in the Hart Trophy conversation. What an asset Carter has been to the Kings.

Carter is the biggest reason this team is above .500. Pearson is also having a great year. Not worried about Toffoli. Kid is 24 and has one of the best shots in the league. Always a very good +/-.

I'm more worried about Kopitar and Gaborik bringing it every night. Brown is actually having a decent year. IMHO- losing Williams really hurt us. We need leaders who can step up when we need it.
