The false opportunity cost of 11.6

Would San Jose be interested? @Bobby9 @bossram

They can afford to put him on wing
They're not trading Celebrini for Petey (obviously), but there's no other piece I'd be that interested in a Petey trade. There's no deal to make.

Bobby is the most irrationally Petey hating person here, so course he'd trade him to SJ for anything.

Whether you believe he's injured or not, or that it's the lingering effects of a bad offseason, or that it's all in his head, or whatever... it's pretty clear that he's not gone forever. He will be back at some point.

Whether you are committed to wanting to trade him or not, we are stuck waiting for him to return to form. Even if you are dead set on trading him you wait for him to return to form so we can actually get value and then sell instead of giving him away for a bunch of quarters now because of impatience.
I don't think it's because of impatience people want to get rid of him, it's been over a year now. How many years are we expecting to wait for him return to form? I think it's a valid question. And some just don't want to risk having pettersson locked into his NMC while our team still has options to where he goes/what assets we can still reclaim. Tocchet basically confirmed he isn't injured last night and he's lost love for the game and not having fun. To me that's first world problems, poor Petey. We're still winning without him putting up points anyways, I feel like any centre given the hours he's had in his position could put up his points. Maybe he comes back maybe he doesn't, signing a contract like that then vanishing off planet earth for a full year like that says a lot about EP40.

I wonder how much of an impact MP29 being around is going to have on EP40? MP29 is a leader and vocal guy, he's certainly not as reserved as EP40 and a lot of Swedes are, and as a key acquisition, didn't hesitate to sign an extension here, citing his previous experience with management being a reason why.

The stark contrast in voices and presence in the locker room between MP29 and Miller is a godsend for EP40.

Hilarious considering everything ive said about EP116 is coming true right in front on you.

Making up injuries is where you’re at in this discussion FYI and you call yourself the rational side.

Also, Will smith has just as much value as the current EP116

He's probably never going to be a center and will top out as a Kent Johnson type scoring winger. Not really comparable as players and I'd argue that current Petey is still more valuable than him given the fact he's actually able to play c.

Factor in the god awful 11.6M contract and WSmith has more value.

I think compounding the problem is we only have Hughes guaranteed for 2 more seasons after this. We don't have an infinite amount of time to wait for Petey to rediscover himself, nor do we know if/when he will disappear again when we need him most. Had this happened during the Benning years, it would suck but it's not a big deal because we never have a chance anyways. But with Hughes playing at Hart-level, to waste his prime by waiting/hoping for our 1C to show up is a tough pill to swallow. We kind of already wasted a golden chance last season to go on a deeper run.

I don't want to sound insensitive and downplay and physical and emotional trauma he went through the last few years, I'm sure it's tough and it sucks. But the team needs him and at some point, we need him to show up.

I'm not advocating to trade him because I know we will lose that trade 100% of the time. But at the same time watching him struggled so hard for so long, it's very very frustrating! Here's to hoping the 4 Nations turns things around for him.

I really don't get it. Why was Hronek basically lying about being injured at the end last season ? Why can't they just be open about all this sh** ? There's either an injury or there isn't. But that's not what was being communicated with Hronek last year or Petterson now.

To be fair, Petey has been pretty consistent about his injury it just didn't square with Tocchet and management's version.

If a player is going to "play through an injury" in the playoffs, it's a good idea not to advertise the fact to the opposition.

I think he's talking about the press conference at the end of the season, the infamous one where Hronek got pissy at the media.

Hronek was just simply being prideful and didn't want his injury to be an excuse why he didn't show up in the playoffs, so he played off his injury. Everyone could see his hand was wrapped up.

OTOH, Pettersson wanted his injury to be a reason... At least maybe it would do some explaining on his performance. But it kind of just added more questions than not.
