According to the CBA, the Oilers can't "stop" him from coming back before the season is over if he is truly healthy. They would have to work together with him and lie about being healthy, like Vegas and Tampa have done. Or they would have to find a doctor that actually won't clear him.
I agree that Kane isn't going to hold the team ransom over his few games. I can see why he would want to get some time in to shake off the rust and be more effective though.
I could see media using this as a way to make Kane the bad guy here though. Local sports media are trolls.

End of the day the team has to evaluate who will make a bigger impact in the playoffs, Kane or another player. That is the bottom line. When he comes back is a different matter, as it opens up potential cap space for an additional player/players. But to me they have to answer the first question, and if they feel Kane can be back to the version he was before injury, then you keep him, regardless of when he comes back, as you won't find a player out there that can do what that version of Kane can do.

Hard to say with all those retention on Frederic.
It seems to me that he's pushing to come back at probably closer to 70% than 100%, because he's scared of losing his spot.
I find it very hard to believe that he'd be at 100% before end of the season. I doubt he'll truly be at 100% even for game 83.
He said it himself that he pushed to come back before he was 100% after the wrist injury. One of the sports shows was talking about how he has a history of coming back early from past injuries early too.
He's being incredibly selfish right now and it's clear that his #1 interest is not team success, but personal preservation.

I don't know how anyone can watch the forwards on this team and actually think Kane would lose a spot to one of them.

I’ll take a player working hard to get back onto the roster to help his struggling teammates over one willing to cheat the system to win , any day of the week. (Spare me the arguments that other teams do it so it’s acceptable).
We already have too many ineffective, slackers on the roster. Don’t really need to encourage another one.
Kane at 70% is better than most of this high paid roster- looking at you Nuge, Arvidsson, Henrique…

Bjugstad proved absolutely useless against top end talent two years ago, can’t imagine that has improved with age.
Before the Frederic trade, I was sure this team was better with Kane than whatever crap JackBow thought would help. Now that we acquired a similar player, I still believe that but am more open to moving him. This mess is on management, not Kane.
I don't think Kane is worried about losing his spot to the trash we currently have on the wings. I think IF he is trying to make an early comeback, he is just doing so because he thinks it is best for himself to be effective in the playoffs. Which I can't argue with, especially since if he is at 100% for game 1, that's huge for us. He's an animal.
There doesn't seem to be a big name we are missing out on. Yes, there is some decent players, but nothing that is really gonna push us over the top; especially if management has decided they won't get a significant upgrade in goal. They turned over a lot of the roster in the offseason, and it messed with the team. Turfing Kane for some other middling player could do the same. We just don't have the assets for some of the rumored high end pieces, again, thanks to management.
I still have hope that this is all theatrics, and they will use the Kane LTIR to add. But if not, I'm not too worried, because I don't think that's the key to us winning this year.
If I were JackBow, and Kane was adamant on coming back early, I think I keep him. Try and ditch Arvy/Skinner to maybe upgrade the wings. Try to find another goalie on the minimum, since they wont give those playoff games to Pickard anyways, may as well shoot another shot and hope he catches fire to supplant Skinner. Try and get [email protected] for Klingberg+Akey+picks. We still have options with Kane, it's just a little more expensive. But if the alternative is paying to get rid of Kane, I'd rather take that gamble and pay more for retention to replace Klingberg/Pickard and keep Kane.

There were a lot of warnings from his other stops when the Oilers were looking into signing him that he wears out his welcome fast and a has a history of alienating teammates and executives until everyone involved just wants him gone. It's not that much of a stretch to think that it might be happening again.

Oilers won’t spend Kanes LTIR in case he comes back early but suddenly he won’t be able to play until end of April and meanwhile Frederic will get some weird infection and be unable to play period….because Oilers.

A guy wants to play and thinks he can help out his team. Most fans call those guys "warriors" who will play through anything but Kane is being selfish lol.

Kane has conducted himself like a pro and a gentleman since arriving in Edmonton. I’ll continue to give him the benefit of the doubt and disregard pot stirring dickheads like Friedman.
The answer will be if we keep adding or not. If we are money in money out then something is fishy.

I LOVE that they added size to the bottom 6, but now we need a Winger for Leon. (truthfully I don't even care if it's Donato, It just slots the bottom 6 in way better)
Max Jones just got called up and as a 4th liner/13th forward I don't hate it
