Schultz has looked pretty bad for the most part this season. I know that keeping as much talent as possible for a potential cup run makes sense, but I don't think that Schultz is the answer. Right handed offensive defensemen are highly coveted around the league; I'd exploit a team's need for one to acquire either a 3c or RW, even if they're a rental.

He's been our third best right d. We can put those cap dollars to better use.

Out of morbid curiosity will Chucky get a run at 2C being that he has done it in the past and is having trouble acclimating at wing here...not saying I want this I just have a feeling Sully may ponder the option.

Bjug (lol)
McCann (may get a shot)
Blueger (can't break up the dominant 4th line...)
Lafferty (lot of responsibility for him this early)

If Sully starts going crazy ... Guentzel

If Chucky continues to struggle, I could see a swap of him and JGP. Then the Sens would have the rest of the season to convince him to resign. We should retain on him then try to get him back at the TDL just to make people's heads explode.

Out of curiosity.. If where to trade Chucky for Granlund, is this a fair trade or who adds?

The bar to clear isn't being better here than Nashville, it's being better in the lineup than Galchenyuk. Which has to be pretty good odds, eh?

The bar to clear should be being better than the other things we could pay for with that asset value. If Granlund isn't better here than he is in Nashville we're better off trading those guys for futures and playing any old AHLer instead.

Lets do it. There's always the chance that in all the juggled lines, he forms a good connection with someone at wing and starts putting up the kind of supporting production that can get his confidence going in other ways.

At this point, anything is better than the need to dangle him in every proposal. Bjug has seen his chance come and go, really, but its way to soon to be cutting bait with Chucky

Forget the points. I just love the way he skates the puck to pressure and his vision in the offensive zone. Very underappreciated.

Which boggles my mind they wont let him have any PP time. They keep using Dumo-Petts on the 2nd unit which is infuriating.

The Finnish contingent on HF ruined Granlund for me with their hype. They made him out to basically be what Patrick Kane is and wouldn't hear otherwise, and instead he turned into a guy who's more likely to score 50 points than 80+.

I REALLY like the idea of a Galchenyuk - Granlund swap. Also move out Bjugstad for D help.

Guentzel - Crosby - Simon
McCann - Malkin - Rust
Kahun - Granlund - Hornqvist
Aston-Reese - Blugars - Tanev

I would move TB up to the third line center and keep McCann on the wing. Malkin, Bjugs, TB, Lafferty who can play center on the 4th line.

Jake Malkin, Rust
McCann Bjugstad Tanev
Galchenyuk TB Simon/Horny
Reese Lafferty Kuhny

Yeah, that article just says that JR thinks Marino, JJ and Malkin have played well and JR really likes this team and doesn't think he needs to make a trade anytime soon. So I feel like this season will be similar to 2016-2017 in terms of trades, nothing much beyond a small rental addition or cutting dead weight to make room for a young guy

Granlund isn’t a center in the NHL dawg.

You’d simply slot him at LW with Geno.

He was putting up around 40+ ES points with the Wild. I dunno, would be a solid risk IMO.

I don't think I've seen a LW like Granlund work with Geno though. And I worry about putting players who take too many risks with Geno.

Which is, why although I love the sound of a winger who regularly put up 40+ ES points, I wonder whether he's a good idea. He's clearly hugely talented and will prove that when given the right platform, but I wonder if that's us.

I mostly like Rutherford's sentiment but this team has a bit of a goalscoring problem and while a lot of that's injuries, some of that's guys being disappointing. I'm not sure I'd bet on him staying of this mind if the goalscoring problems are still there in 3 or so weeks time.

Agreed.

I think the Pens have a lot of what I'd call "tweeners", decent offensive guys who can generate a bunch of chances. But I think the reason we see a lot of games where they generate 40+ shots and struggle to score more than 2 or 3 goals in those games is because we lack in pure goal scorers. We've essentially got 3 guys who can score 30+, but after that it's a massive drop to a bunch of whack-a-mole types who can score 15-20 in a good year.

This is where Galchenyuk not working out is hurting us. Him returning to his 30-ish goal days and being that extra guy who can pick the corners on a consistent basis would have been huge.
