I'm a bit of an Excel geek. The day I learned pivot tables I was a happy camper.

It's actually ridiculous the amount of things it can do. Most people probably only use maybe ten percent of its full capacity lol. I can't imagine the brain power that went into creating it. But then again, as I like to say, if the world was up to me, the wheel wouldn't have been invented yet lol.
I love Excel.

Yeah, there's so much stuff I run into that I had no idea you could even do with excel. But now if I have to do something complicated I just google "how to...in excel" and usually can find a tutorial. Like last week I learned how to make an entire column of positive numbers negative with a paste special command instead of having to copy it, drag it aside, multiply by negative one, and drag it back to the original column. Makes reimbursement import batches so much easier. Also taught myself to format cells to automatically change color if they're a certain value or if it's a date reaching its expiration, etc. I've been shown pivot tables before too, they're pretty useful from what I see.

I'm sure there's so much more that would make life easier that I just don't know about yet.
So this is a thing....lol

VLookups FTW.

I have to track certain things and it can be a royal pain to update lists when new people start so now I am able to use vlookups to add the missing data. What would take me all day now takes me less than an hour depending on the list.

I plan to do the pivot table chapter this weekend just so I know how to do them.

We have LinkedIn Learning so I am also going to check there for how to's to save.

Once my role finally transitions back into what I was hired to do, I am going to live in excel and I can't wait. It will let me toss on podcasts and just plug away without interruption.

31 years ago today Hurricane Bob made landfall in Newport, RI. It was the last time a hurricane made landfall in New England. Let's hope the streak continues.

Bob was a real son of a bitch. Since I live in a small village on the RI border Eversource (then Northeast Utilities) took its sweet time restoring the power- we were without electricity for almost 10 days. Thankfully at the time we had a swimming pool for water and a gas grill for cooking otherwise it would have been a lot harder than it was. We had a small generator at the office so we could work (yay, lots of claims to file!!!!). After that we got a bigger one and my parents invested in a big one for the house. We weren't going through that shit again.

I don't recall it doing much damage in my Boston neighborhood. I remember walking around during it and hurricane parties at the local bars.

We lost 2 transformers here in town. Since there were a lot of dead trees still standing (gypsy moth infestation) it didn't take much to blow one down onto a transformer or wires. The real problem was Northeast Utilities. Due to "cost saving measures" not only did they not have extra crew assigned for the storm they didn't even have any spare transformers on hand. Not their finest hour to be sure.

Anybody here use Stitch Fix? I didn't keep anything from the first batch, but I just got my second one and really liked it. A little more than I usually like to spend on clothes, but I don't do it every month and they have some good quality stuff so far.

I’ve always been tempted to try out a service like that. There have been several over the years, but I assume they all faded because it’s not a viable long term solution for most people. From what I remember, they’ve got great reviews and the clothes are good quality, but long term it’s just too costly. I am very bad at picking clothes so I’d be willing to get a couple items sent to me blind, but for the prices they charge i would end up cancelling pretty quick.

Yeah, honestly I don't see me doing this more than a couple times per year, if that. I hate clothes shopping, so with this I kind of feel like I'm on What Not to Wear, without a camera following me around.

I never know what youtube will recommend to me, but this channel popped up the other day. If you want to see crazy/stupid people on boats, this is for you. I got seasick just watching it lol
