>>On August 11, 2014, the Los Angeles Kings announced that they would be retiring Blake's No. 4 jersey on January 17, 2015.<<

Think about it, folks.

And this may be our next GM? Holy ****.

I personally have no desire to see Blake take over for Lombardi, it will be much of the same stuff that we've seen over the last three years

Of course this ****ing team continues with the nepotism. Get over it. Maybe he took the job to learn and still live in L.A. I really hope he's not the next GM.

Mike Futa will be the GM. He's paid his dues just as Blake will have to himself before he becomes a GM.

So who would be responsible for appointing the next GM?

It all depends on if Lombardi is still in the organization in some capacity.

The last thing I want to see is Rob Blake and Luc Robitaille running things.

Yes...I don't buy into the logic that great players make great front office personnel.

Just look at the mess that guys like Linden and Sakic have created in their organizations

Blake will be the Kings GM at some point if he wants it.

The guy is hugely respected in the Kings org, along with around the NHL.

If Blake was our GM, I'd simply step aside from fandom for the duration of his tenure. I stopped watching from 1994-2000..... It wouldn't be that huge of a challenge for me to miss the "GM Blake Era". LoL, I've got stuff to do, anyway..... Start a Hedge Fund, fire some peeps, lots of laughs..... stuff like that!!!

To be serious for a moment, I would think the Kings organization would have learned their lesson by now.

Years of futility under management by ex-Kings players, too much influence by Gretzky in personnel decisions when he was a player, and now Dean handing out retirement contracts like candy to "his boys".

Someone asked why Joel Q. hasn't had the same problem in Chicago which Sutter has had here with the Kings? The Chicago GM kept a fresh batch of players in the supporting cast flowing through the organization, and the Blackhawks have a solid core that have bought into what Joel Q. is selling. The GM doesn't let it get stale.

The Hawks key players have all continued to produce. The have 28 goals from a 38 year old....

Toews righted, what ever was wrong with him.

Chicago was forced to change it's roster by the cap, and bad contracts.

Just like the Kings are being forced too now.

In a way Bowman's fax screw up made the Blackhawks see the supporting cast could be turned over without great effect.

It does seem like Toews, Kane, and Keith are a better core than Kopitar, Carter, and Doughty though, and it obviously makes a difference.

We both know where we stand on the idea of any 30-year old getting an 8-year deal. In Chicago's case they did it with Toews and Kane a couple years earlier than the Kings did it with Kopitar.

I thought Kopitar's second contract was great for both sides. Kopitar was overpaid early on for his potential, paid about right in the middle, and finally slightly underpaid at the end. The third deal is going to be a disaster for the Kings.

That was Tallon, and he got ****canned for it. But your point stands otherwise.

Oh yeah, my bad. It was Tallon.

I know you knew that. only reason I was nitpicky about it was showing how every other successful franchise has also had turnover. Pittsburgh's done it too. Doesn't mean the followup GM can't learn the lessons though. In fact, I'm sure inheriting a good roster with a new eye has great benefit.

I'd legit be excited to see what Futa would do with this roster and a different staff. With Blake I imagine it's the old boys club. Nelson Emerson asst. GM, Glen Murray head coach, Steve Heinze Ontario's new coach, what other Kings are still around, Kyle Calder, Jarret Stoll, Mcsorely, O'Donnell, Anson Carter...
