Imagine, Matthews is saying the team hasn't played a full 60 mins. Yet. We're 8 games into the season. That's a potential 16 points.

While I do agree, it is the players, it is Dubas and Shanny who created this country club. Lou and Babs were too tough and mean, so the players railroaded them out of town. Now you have 4, well maybe just 3, as I do not really want to include JT in there, due to waning skills and he does seem to care. But the other 3, Mitchy, Mattie, and Willie Ny, the corner shy guy. Show em the door. I would rather some lesser skilled players who actually gave a shite, then this crap year after year. And what is with Keefe. He has proven not to be an NHL coach.
I have said for the last 5 years, that this team has no heart, no guts, no will to win. Give me the early 90's with Gilmour, Clark, Anderson, Zezel, Berg, Rouse, Ellett, Gill and Coach Burns. Or even the early 2000's before the Muskoka 5. You had Roberts, Tucker, Sundin, Courson, Domi, McCabe and Coach Quinn. They never won a cup, but at least they won a round. At least they won something.

so disappointing this is what we got after that Washington series when we lost in Game 6. Thought by now they would have or been very close to winning a Cup. but still we're hunting for a 1st Round win still.
they did this last year and can still turn the season around fairly quickly but doesnt give me a whole lotta hope that the results will be any different.

It’s becoming painfully clear that the make up of this core group does not work.
not much we can do about it this year but both Marner and Matthews needs to be traded for more competitive skilled guys. Before anyone jumps on me look at Calgary. They lost some of thier stars but went out and replaced them and are better then before.
also consider that there are some successful great teams out there and none of them have Matthews, Marner , Tavares or Willy. It can be done without those 4 if thier value is spent wisely on thier replacements

God bless the bloke, but he's a walking contradiction. We've had Dubas has passed all the tests, This is the worst team since Dubas traded for toughness, It's the fans fault and Dubas acts on what said here.

It's hard to tell his stance on things.

There is plenty of blame to go around. As well as the top guys being awful what happen to these new bottom 6 players Nar, Zar and Jancrock that were touted as being great additions. They have been awful. It could easily be argued that our bottom 6 is worse then last year

The commentary that we are playing down to another teams low level 1) Assumes we are better team than the "lesser" team 2) Gives the players an excuse to forgive their shitty play, 3) is insulting to the concept of competition.

That playing down commentary HAS to stop. We are not playing down, we are playing exactly at the level this team has proven multiple times that we are capable playing:

1) We lose to Montreal
2) We beat Ottawa by one goal
3) We lose to Arizona
4) We lose to SJS

When 50% of the time you are "playing down to your opponents", you're not playing down, that is who you are. This team is a middle of the pack, uncohesive, group of lost boys that will be fighting for a playoff spot. Keefe is a lame duck coach, keeping him past today, is only going to delay the inevitable.

What Dubas does, is he looks at what his team needed to win the last playoff round and he goes out and gets that on the cheap. Not hard to see that is his M.O.
