The Charlotte FC thread

That's by design. IBM absolutely cannot afford to break a business they paid $34 billion for, and Paul Cormier is very good at keeping things separated for the rank and file -- though it's understandably messier at the top.

There was a lot of hope that Jim Whitehurst would transform the IBM business so it looked a lot more like Red Hat, but Jim's decision to move on sort of tells the story there.
It won't happen overnight.

Where you'll see the long term play is what IBM decides to do with the middle managers going forward. If you start to see Red Hat middle and upper management spreading into IBM, then you'll see overall culture change for the good, but if IBM starts replacing those managers at RedHat with their own.... well...

The first would be the best course of action they could take. The latter is what they are very much known for doing.

Dude. It's Red Hat. Two words. You're killing me here!

I don't think Red Hat branding has been doing themselves any favours to curb confusion .. they've gone full circle at this point.

Red Hat -> red hat -> redhat -> Red Hat

When they got rid of shadow man they should have also gone back to the OG logo IMO

Looks like Charlotte is the new Atlanta. A city with a brain.

If only Raleigh in the early 90s built a football stadium like Charlotte did. Hopefully this hopeless city will do similar. It has zero downside.

Charlotte has a lot of soccer fans, most didn't know that, but every game I went to, Liverpool and such, was always sold out and crazy fun fans.

My man you need to do yourself a favor and relocate. I've never seen someone complain about a city not being "good enough" on a Hockey board and figured that was saved for Reddit or whatever.

What, you think they just randomly built a 75,000 seat stadium in the middle of the city and waited for a team to show up and occupy it?

My dude, the stadium was built because they landed the Panthers. It wasn't even ready in time for their inaugural season, that's why they had to play at Clemson. They didn't just build the damn thing as bait.

If Raleigh had built a stadium like that, it would have been used like 1 time a year for a concert.

The "if you build it, they will come" strategy doesn't seem to be working for Quebec, either.

Kansas City seems to have been fine with it with the city wanting no tenants so they can get money from all the events there.

St. Louis with the dome, OTOH...

Bold strategy coming into the forum of the team that is currently leading the Eastern Conference in points is telling us that our city is worthless. I'm sure this will work out well for you in the end.

Not just them, but the IT departments of some major companies like Credit Suisse, MetLife, Fidelity Investments, First Citizens, the US side of Deutsche Bank, among others, are down here. And on top of that, you even have SAS and Epic Games with their global HQ in Cary. And that's not even getting into some smaller companies (who have a major role in IT) like Ansible (who were acquired by RedHat) who had their HQ in Durham.

But yeah, this guy can go on with this whole 'Raleigh has nothing' bullshit.

Not sure about the others, but Credit Suisse has much more than IT down here. The Raleigh office has more employees than the New York office at this point, and it's a pretty significant difference from my understanding.

Also, very happy to say that I finally finished my job hunt! No longer going to be reading about my employer's new scandal every other week .

~50% salary increase and ~70% total comp increase are icing on the cake.

In regards to OP:

Could not care less about the MLS. Though I'm glad that the sports dollars in the Triangle won't be split more than they already are.

I will be attending the game today but I am pretty sure that this will be where my interest ends. If you've watched any high level European league you know how stark the difference between the two are and it makes it hard to watch. I feel like the champion of MLS would get bodied in the Championship in England. But for a day trip, why not?

Charlotte has Viva Chicken, whereas Raleigh is stuck with Alpaca.

I live in Indian Trail, right outside of Charlotte. A few years ago, a movie theater was built and shopping/restaurants starting popping up all around the theater. My wife and I joked if one of the restaurants ended up being a Viva Chicken, we’d never move.

Guess we’re stuck here now. There’s a Viva less than 2 miles from my house and their yellow crack sauce (Aji Amarillo) has a hold on us.

Charlotte has a good Peruvian chicken chain.
Raleigh has Ashley Christensen.

And if you want to talk chains, I’ll put Zambrero up against any Mexican chain now that it’s in Durham and Cary.

It would get bodied by any league sending multiple teams into Champions League.
