What happened to the great scoring we heard so much after the last 2 rounds??

Maybe just maybe Metro is by far the worst division in the NHL right now

They only sent 3 teams and the Devils were the worst playoff team in the 2nd half of the season. Everyone already knew the Metro was weak this year.

To be fair to Brind'Amour 4 of these games happened over 15 years ago in 2009 and belongs to another coach (Paul Maurice). Thread makes it sound they make the Conference Finals every year. The current iteration of this team got swept twice (in 2019 and 2023), prior to these playoffs.

People will still fool themselves again next year when they are beating up shit metro teams and claim they are a serious contender again.

Anytime they've faced an Atlantic team they've been stomped...

Devils were the easiest match up out of anyone with their injuries

Also Washington was never a real threat, Vegas as well never bought into them

I thought Carolina could have a chance based on rest/how many long playoff runs Florida has had

When it comes to rosters it’s night and day

They really need to go all in for a superstar forward

Thanks to Necas trade especially they have the assets and cap space

Whatever you have to pay you pay

The whole division was a joke and it shows.

Only 3 teams made it. The Devils were arguably the worst team of the playoffs while the Caps overachieved this year.
So we are left with the Canes as the best of the bunch but clear they do not have the extra gear needed at this level.

This is why this playoff format is terrible. Just go back to 1-8 for each conference. This is nonsense

No harm in throwing Morrow, Nikishin & Kotkaniemi in for the rest of the series. They have something to prove. And of course Kochetkov into the net.

This is why I generally think the canes get too much of a free pass relative to the leafs

If they switched divisions it’s not unreasonable to suggest the leafs would have made it to the ECF at least once

They almost always either faced the bruins, who were a nemesis and dominant in that division for many years, or they ran into the team that is poised to make it to the SCF for the third year in a row

Match ups matter

I spent the last week ragging on the leafs but I think Toronto could beat Carolina too.

The leafs have some major glaring issues but let’s not forget they’re magnified because Florida is possibly the best team in the league and the leafs can only win if they get through them. Florida is also tailor made to crush the leafs.

If the Leafs had disposed of Florida, they were gonna make the finals.

They'd have lost there but they'd have made it.

First i think its better to lose ECF games then not being there att all....
But it is a loong losing streak

I just cant consider a team with Jack Roslovic as your 2C and Freddy Andersen as your starting goalie to be a serious contender. Youre never going to win like that. And as you said, they dont even have a super star that can try and mask those issues.

Since the Caps won in 2018, the Metro division has been absolute trash, whatever Atlantic team that comes out is basically guaranteed to dog walk whoever comes out of the Metro (which is usually CAR). Truth is they are worse than the Leafs.
We got dog walked a few times too, don't forget us please.

A remarkable thing to do. Teams that make the conference finals should theoretically be close to each other in talent. NHL absolutely needs to change the seeding system. The current one sucks and has gotten boring with the same matchups year after year. To hell with this creating rivalries crap the NHL says the current system promotes. Conference finals should be tight affairs.
Under the new division system, 2014, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 24 were all great ECF series, with 15-18, and 21 all going 7 games, IIRC. The only outlier here are those sweeps of the Canes in 19 and 23. Looks like a Canes problem, not a division set-up problem.

In 2016,17,18 the real ecf was the second round pens caps series.

And yet were coming up on 7 straight years of a metro team not making the cup finals.

I do think the Canes have overachieved for quite a while. This is probably the weakest roster they have had on paper in quite some time.

Shipping off Rantanen and losing Necas prior to that put them in a tough spot. I am impressed they were able to eliminate the Caps in 5 games.

That being said, they should still be performing much better than this. They look like the worst team in the league out there against Florida.

Canes definitely need to go hard after a goal scorer this offseason. They took a chance with Rantanen but unfortunately it didn’t pan out.
Keeping the Rantanen we saw play the last 2 games (For Carolina) would be akin to playing a Cardboard cutout that can't move.. YES he was that terrible.
As to the team Florida is all in their heads and The first game was closer then the score this last game wasn't Mo took off the gas and they still coasted. Bob is so far in their heads just hang a Paper Bob in the goal I doubt the canes would score twice..

They need a real sandpaper player with Grit.. and no they don't have that guy they are too "nice"
They need a Marchand, 5 year ago Perry Tkachuk.
