Why is all the pressure on the Panthers, I mean isn’t there pressure on the Leafs to finally beat the game 7 curse?
Leafs are in bonus territory for the fans. If they win, great, we get another 2 weeks of Leafs hockey, if they lose it was still a fantastic season.
Florida was expected to win easy and cruise to another Cup final.

Losing in the 2nd round is not a fantastic season and likely big changes will happen if they do... the Leafs have a lot of pressure.

Ya, I don’t think that’s true. We lose another game 7, even against the cup champs, its curtains. This team with its talent should be a top contender. We should be able to beat the Panthers, as good as they are.

Our defense is a top defense now, (3 slot shots allowed last game is insane) excellent goalies when healthy, good coaching. It’s going to come down to the big guys coming through and some depth scoring just like game 6.

I don't suppose they could just light up the Panthers with 6 or 7 could they? Or is that too much to ask?
A goal within the first 10 minutes for us would do a lot to alleviate Leafs nations anxiety this evening lol.

If it's one of those end of second 0-0 games, may the hockey gods have mercy on our souls.

Hopefully Matthews now remembers what it feels like to score and goes off.

I'm expecting a big game from BOTH the Matthews this evening.

No? Winning the division, winning a round and being one of the final five teams in hockey is not a fantastic season? Those are a lot of steps forward.

Does the regular season matter now?

Also, their 2nd worst point % in the last 5 years... it isn't like they actually took steps, everyone else just took steps back.

Losing in 5 or 7 is still a loss in the 2nd round, seems like the season is a failure regardless.

I hope they win today, but big changes are coming if they don't (I think), so there is likely a lot of pressure, especially on Marner and Tavares.

That poster hates everything post-Dubas, he is ignoring the fact that this Leafs team had already won more playoff games than the 2004 team.

High bar...

Yeah, win or lose, you have to let Marner walk and bring in a couple more Tre players. Marner is too expensive for what little he brings in the playoffs. Two goals in 12 games (13.67 pace) these playoffs. Two SOG the last 5 games. 4 SOG in game #1. 8 SOG in six games vs Ottawa. See you.

Compare Marner's SOG with the top scorers in these playoffs. #Laughable.

What is a Tre player? Huberdeau? That's the same salary and likely can be had for nothing.

He is also a big fan of Marner...

follow the steps outlined below and you will have the best chance of winning

  1. Start on time
  2. Pace yourself and do not overexert yourself -> short shifts and meaningful shifts and STAY THE F OUT OF THE BOX
  3. do not puck watch -> SKATE SKATE SKATE
  4. engage in 50-50 puck battles do not back off near the boards
  5. put pucks on net and do not look for that special shot playing perimeter hockey -> GOAL IS A GOAL, don't need to paint a Picasso
  6. Marner and Rielly do not f***ing turnover the puck with fancy bullshit LEARN BY NOW
  7. Matthews, Nylander and Tavares shoot every chance you get
  8. figure your shit out in the 2nd period -> been outplayed in 2nd periods for 4 games in a row now
  9. 3rd period if you have a lead do not sit on it and give florida multiple chances to get back in the game
  10. play as a 5 man unit, play more in the offensive zone, all the lines take every possible shot there is to take, look for rebounds/garbage goals not just rush chances. PLAY FULL 60 MINUTES

JUST GO OUT THERE AND WIN (no ifs and buts or any other crap)
No disagreements here.

FLA is very good at taking advantage of the long change at home.

I’ll add: protect the goalie. Move your feet, get inbetween and prevent. The refs likely to put the whistle away, so opens the door for sneaky greasy dangerous play, right outta the Panther playbook.

Go Leafs go.

Changes could happen regardless of the outcome of this game. With Knies and Matthews not at 100% and using their backup goalie it’s difficult to beat a really good team.
Tkachuk is also hurting with a suspected labrum injury so he won’t be 100 % either, but if the compete, there is no shame in losing this game.

I don't think there's shame in losing to Florida but we are also well past handing out moral victory and style points in a losing effort.

Leafs also took down Tampa Bay in 2023, who was coming off 2 Stanley Cups and a run to the finals vs Colorado. So this team is actually no stranger to toppling a long standing powerhouse. Beat Florida. Beat Marchand. End their little golden age.

So just get the job done and rewrite your story here tonight at home.

It is impossibly higher than any Dubas teams wished to achieve.

I don't care what past GMs did, 2nd round is not great, they will make changes if that is all they do.

I've called Dubas a failure here for only getting so far, I won't proclaim Treliving a success with the same results.

Your post is just silly, why are we pretending if they lose in the 2nd round it is automatically a successful season? You want them to run it back if they do?

And that is the main point I guess. If they can win this game, this team of "chokers" and "losers" who can never win will have gone as far as the beloved Sundin and Gilmour Leafs ever did.

These are legacy altering times

Hopefully the building is rocking tonight and team shows up ready to battle.

We will need to start scoring some goals on the PP, whether in tonights game or against the stingy PK of the Canes.

We cannot win a game 7 vs FLA, ECF against CAR and then finals against EDM/DAL if our powerplay goes super cold again.

It would truly be an accomplishment given 34 is not 100%, 88 has disappeared for most of the last 3 games, the PP has been impotent again, 18, 19, 24, 29 and 74, have not done much production wise and they lost their #1G in game 1.
