The Best Save of All Time?

There's too many saves, and each one somebody could say, "my beer league goalie made a stop like that." It would have to be a save that saved the stanley cup in game 7 overtime or something.

Yeah, there are going to be highlight-reel saves every season and over time there's no way of distinguishing them. The only way is with context/historical significance.

gah i hope we get another Thomas and Hasek. Two of the most entertaining and great athletes in history.

The Andersen save with the Leafs where he got a paddle on the puck where the shooter had open net.

Came in here to post the Caron save. Just an absolutely perfect, incredibly lucky save - he had no business stopping that from going in...and yet, he did.

If there was ever a thread that had to respect the buzzword “clutchness”, this it that thread. The importance of the save outweighs the athleticism. That doesn’t mean that a simple pad save in OT of a playoff game is greater than a spectacular save in a blowout game. There’s a balance.

As a Pens fan, Fluery in game 7 in the ‘09 finals on Lidstrom is #1. “The save” is #2. Brent Johnson saving himself from Ricky D is #3. Jean-Sebastian Aubin blocking a friendly chair toss from Tommy Barrasso is #4. Anyone save the moose made in ‘01 is #5.

As for the rest of the hockey world; Richter spit save on Bure. Name one save that gained that much national exposure for the sport, displayed a high degree of skill from both sides, and was that pivotal?

Braithwaite came to mind immediately. Nabokov too. Forgot about the Caron one that's definitely up there, those 3 would all make my shortlist. The Holtby one from this year was great too. So many great saves to mention.

Not best of all time, but a few of my favourites came in the same playoff series. In big moments too.

Biased as a Sharks fan to that Nabokov save in the OP. That save happened super late on the East Coast, and I remember thinking that the most Sharks thing to happen would be for the goal judge to say it crossed the line.

After that save i thought we were gonna win the series. What actually bothered me more was that Turco later stopped Marleau on a rush with a clumsy save with his huge gold pads and the announcers were equating the two saves, as if they could be compared :ha:
