The Backup Goalie Situation Round 2 Dobes Edition

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
I said it earlier and I'll say it again. Primeau is done as a Hab. Bring up Dobes and give him a shot. If he doesn't work out, trade for a veteran goalie with a year or two left on his contract as a stop gap until Fowler comes in as a backup and eventual starter.

Also, ironically enough, after 2 dominate years in the KHL, Fucale and his agent are trying to get him back in the NHL. Talk about a motivated player who has professional experience and a local boy. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get signed to a 2 way deal.

Dont want to mess with Dobes. Let him continue developing in the A. I'd like to see him get a few games at end of season but nothing more than that. And then try him at backup next season full time and go from there

A smart move would have been to send Primeau to Laval on a conditioning stint to play a couple of games. Not playing him at all was not the solution, not addressing his lack of playing time was and is not the solution. He is now done imo.

It isn't fair to Primeau either, he's still relatively young and could still turn his career around with a fresh start like Fucale has. Let the guy play somewhere and try to earn himself a contract somewhere for next year.

It’s not about being fair to Primeau. Primeau had a chance to cement his spot and proceeded to play the worst hockey a habs goalie has played since the 90s

Isn't Fucale still under a KHL contract?

He failed at his job so there's no reason for him to be on the team. When players like Primeau don't perform teams send the player to the minors or trade them, not just humiliate them by letting them rot on the bench and only play in blowout games. He's not some 37 year old veteran at the end of his career, let him go play games somewhere to let him try and salvage his career instead of sitting on the bench because you're not trusted by your team.

At this point they have basically turned him into Big Head from Silicon Valley, where the team is paying him to do nothing.

Watch Drury sign Primeau to a larger contract and then reassign him to the roof.

He's been terrible, but the team was also terrible in front of him. Give him a chance with our in-form team and upgraded d-corps. Then waive if he can't find his feet.

Main issue with late developing goalies is that draft teams can't really benefit from them without investing a lot in development.

Primeau has to agree to that, per the CBA.

Exactly.....drafting goalies high is generally a dumb idea. You often make a huge investment only to watch them flourish elsewhere when they figure it out between 26-28 years of age.
